Just back from dinner, sat out on the patio so we had a full view of the parking lot. Shortly after sitting down a guy pulls in driving the white Corvette and parks in the back of the lot away from all the other vehicles, car is spotless this is clearly his pride and joy. 20 minutes later in comes the gray Audi and parks right next to the Corvette! There's clearly no shortage of spaces, what possesses someone to do this?

See it all the time. I attribute it to the "Wee...look at me" syndrome. The Vette owner could have parked in the far left spot on that same row (just before the walkway) and had a bit more room from the next space, provided a bozo does not park over the line next to it.

Audi guy could have at least put 1 or 2 spaces between them. Possible that they knew each other and meeting there for some reason - ??. I've had that done to my vehicle before ... no rhyme or reason. Maybe they just wanted to look at the car. I checked for door dings thoroughly before leaving.

Audi may have wanted a better look at the vette? But yeah this would grind my gears if I was the vette driver.

I find it harder and harder to see the value in owning a really nice vehicle if you have to park it in public and risk whatever crazy stuff will happen to it, for no fault of your own.

Its also possible he knew that the corvette guy cares about his car too, and that side of his audi probably won't get hit. Reduced his chance of getting hit by 50%.

Park with either side open and you have no idea who will park on either or both sides of you.

You could have parked on the left near the walk, but you are exposed to bikes , skateboards and keying.

I would have backed in the space on the right as close to the concrete island/palm tree( on the right where the hedge row is) as i could. Would leave a lot of space on my drivers side, no one can park next to me on the passenger side, and little to no foot traffic.

I kept an eye on that, they sat at different tables.

I did not mean that they knew each other, just that its another expensive well kept car, the kind of car that the owner does not slam his doors into.

If you have 2 spaces, one next to the dented pickup , or the space next to the shiny waxed vette, which space is the safer spot? Or the risk out in the open of anyone less caring of your auto parking on each side of you. He may have been parking next to what he/she perceived as another caring car owner.

I have already parked next to friends with real nice or new cars so they didnt get door dings, but I generally park drivers side away so I dont accidentally hit them with my drivers door

Audi guy sees Corvette parked at the back, assumes it’s someone else’s pride and joy. Audi guy also loves his Audi so parks it next to the Vette assuming Vette guy won’t door ding him, and he won’t door ding the Vette. Could he have parked a spot or 2 away? Yeah, but then that opens up someone actually passive aggressively parking between them. If I had a nicer car and I saw another nicer car parked next to me that’s what I would assume. Plenty of space between the cars so I don’t think it was done with ill intent.

At least no one took two spots. I park my camry next to the fancy cars at work.

My uncle did an absolutely beautiful frame-off restoration of his '57 Chevy Coupe, which took him years to finish. He and my aunt drove it to town for dinner and parked it in the back row of the parking lot far away from anyone else. It is a large parking lot and 3/4 of the spaces were open. Somebody parked right next to him, got out of their car and doored the '57. My uncle saw the whole thing happen from his dinner seat. When he went out and confronted the woman, she didn't have a clue why he was so upset.

That was 20 years ago and he still talks about it. The ding was fixed and the car is still stunning.

The vehicles are from the same universe as the movie Cars where humans are no more and automobiles have taken over. The Audi and the Corvette are clearly plotting something.

Might be worth making up some cards to put on the next guy's windshield saying "I parked next to you because I didn't want dings from people who don't care." That would give the guy a clue (so he didn't flip-out over it) that the guy parked right next to him in the boondocks wasn't an ahole, but another car enthusiast.

This is actually a really good idea. Like a reverse of the “your parking sucks” cards I may or may not have bought when I was younger.

I used to have this happen when I had a Corvette, Canaro, Firebird Formula, BMW, etc. Some people love to do this kind of stuff, and irritate some unknown person for their own enjoyment. I know that because I’ve worked with people who SAY they do it.

It’s largely why I don’t get cars like that anymore and go with regular rides (but still nicely equipped). None of these idiots who park like this would care about my Ram truck or my Ford whatever...

Related to this: if I’m grabbing something to eat in my car while I’m out running errands, I will park out in a lot far away from others for some measure of privacy. Many, many times I’ll have some weirdo grabbing their lunch and parking right next to my car, and even a couple of times, in such a way that they’re right across from me. (Hey, if I wanted lunch with you, I’d have sent an invite!).

I’m not sure what possesses people to invade other’s space... I usually stop my lunch, start the car and move away from them. 🙄. Maybe I’M the weirdo... 😁

My crazy older brother bought some of the bright orange Parking Violation stickers off EBay and will post on the person’s window that doesn’t park properly. These stickers have Xtra heavy duty glue. :ROFLMAO:

He looks like a character from the TV show Duck Dynasty.

When I was younger, I would have parked close by for a better look at the Corvette although not in the very next space. Now, I would just slow down a little for a better look. It's hard to know what the Audi guy was thinking but people sometimes seem to want to park next to a cool car.
