Is this an easy HP laptop fix?

Might be an overheating thing. Either way it's going to involve opening it up and replacing parts (possibly the whole motherboard). I don't think it's worth the trouble unless you know exactly what must be done and it's cheap.

LOL! are you seriously that desperate in getting a laptop (cheep) ?

How about some new Dells from their website? There are many good deals on a regular basis.

Me I'm not really brand-loyal but so long as they are from major manufacturers, they are much better than those 2nd/3rd line party products (e.g. Acer, etc.)

Yeh, it can be repaired---in the same sense that a flooded out car can be repaired by throwing a ton of money at it.

HP has a known issue with Nvidia chips and the motherboard is almost certainly blown. It will cost about $300.00 to fix and chances are about 70% that the next motherboard will also blow.

Get a Lenovo or some other brand, and do not buy this fellow's junk. Remember what the Romans said; a fool and his money soon are parted.

The above comments do not apply if you are a hardware techie who just wants to cannibalize this computer for some parts. It does have some salvage value, like a totaled out car has. But if you are planning on turning it again into a working computer, it is past saving.

FWIW, I did a motherboard swap in the 17" version of this notebook on Friday. The board was ~$100.00 for an HP refurb.

The thing has to come COMPLETELY apart to swap the board out. Takes about an hour start to finish if you take your time.

I hate HP notebooks.

I have a dv5000 and it was the fan being dead. Start up for a few seconds, and then shut itself off. Fan was the hardest part of the computer to get to.
