I paid the NFA tax and bought a silencer for my 22. With standard velocity ammo it’s quieter than a pellet gun. I wish I had bought it 20 years ago.

If a .22 is too loud don't try this. I plan on turning it into a neat oversized trench lighter. Coffee table model.
But seriously, a competition air rifle will not only be quieter but will also outperform a run-of-the-mill .22 rifle in terms of accuracy and precision.

This is what we use for “non match” ammo. Subsonic 1,070 fps vs 1,125 or above.
CCI Quiet is same bullet weight at 710 gps.

I have one gun that can shoot this stuff accurately. It is a Mossberg 144lsb with 26 inch barrel. It tumbles out of any other gun. But the stuff packs a wallop and will dent my 22 bullet trap. Incredibly quiet too.

Could it be that 35 yds is too far for 710 fps? How is the accuracy when your target is 50 ft?

The cci Quiet shoots fine out of my marlin 25N bolt action.
Try normal subsonic vs the quiet.
as long as there is no supersonic crack its still pretty quiet out of a rifle.
I'd recommend Federal American Eagle-- its accurate reliable and one of the cheapest options.
as a bonus it usually will shoot fine in semi-autos as well.
if you want to stay with CCI there are several other quiet options
Quiet semi auto which is 835fps and quiet -segmented for hunting 710
disclaimer: fps numbers from memory.

This is true. I have had few 22 squibs in the past. A friend of mine came up with a technique to remove them in extreme circumstances.
Maybe get a different gun. I had a Savage 22 target rifle years ago. That gun was impressive and fun, because of how accurate it is. It's lower priced than high end triathlon guns, but still shoots a respectable tight group. One flaw it had was with age the two bolts that held the barrel to the wood, would have their heads sink further into the wood, and the ends would stick out a slight bit below the bolt action firing pin release and cause the gun to fire if bumped. So with the bolt action removed, carefully inspect where those bolts top out below the bolt action each time you clean it. If they are protruding at all, shorten them. Epically the back one.
The peep site setup combined with the thick heavy barrel adds a lot of accuracy.
Other than that, it's a fun gun that's very accurate and low cost for what it is.

My S&W 10 shot revolver doesn't shoot ANY .22LR ammo accurately so there is that.

Being subsonic helps with the downrange crack, but they're not real quiet.
The old Remington, CB caps were ok, but pretty innacurate. They were just primer powered. No powder at all.

You can get CCI 22 shorts. They are accurate within themselves but you will have to adjust after shooting 22lr. There are also Colibri rounds but since they just use primer, I don't know how accurete they are. I learned to shoot with 22 short. Back then they were just 22. the others were 22 long and then 22LR You can also try 22 long but I don't know if they are subsonic or not. I don't remember.
22lr is quiet as is, how quiet does it need to be? If you are not breaking any laws shooting on your property then how is it different to blasting music or to using power tools, nail gun etc?
