Is there a quiet and accurate.22 Ammo?

I have a "Shooting Gallery" on my property. I shoot safely into a hill with a wood back stop. I use cci quiet ammo as to not rouse up any neighbors.

I'm shooting about 35 yds. This ammo is great for being quiet but is very inaccurate.

Sure I'm no Annie Oakley but I can shoot 10 in a row and they all hit at different places. I'm not that bad of a shot!

I'm guessing that @710 fps they just don't spin fast enough to be accurate. I'm using a lever action Henry .22.

Is anyone familiar with a quiet ammo that's more accurate?

22's can be picky. Try some other ammo, anything, it seems once in a while someone will claim that the ammo that everyone else hates works great for them.

Is the gun "right on" with regular HV 22LR? I'm wondering if it doesn't like slower ammo. Maybe verify that it's happy with HV, then SV, then see if you can find a quiet ammo that does what you want.
 
Anything that is sub-sonic will be quieter than high velocity .22LR

There are subsonics from Remington, Aguila, Fiocci , Winchester. and others
 
Typically subsonic 22 ammo is for suppressors or revolvers.

There is not a negligible difference without a suppressor and typical 1040fps 40 grain ammo.

Eley makes the most accurate, CCI is second best IMO. I used Eley in bullseye matches
 
How long is barrel on that rifle? What are the sights you're using, just open or scope? Try sorting rounds by weight and see how ammo of same weight shoots.
CCI.22lr ammo isn't known to be best for accuracy. Different lots of ammo may shoot differently as well.
Barrel longer than 18" and open sights may play a role too.
Also, try Aguila subsonic ammo, it's quiet, not sure on accuracy.
I shoot bolt .22lr gun and the gun likes SK Standard Plus ammo. Eley ammo is good but imho not best for rifles shooting and it's quite expensive too.
In general, 22lr rifles may like one ammo but another, sometimes they shoot cheaper ammo better, you sure need to buy a bunch of diff ammo and try them. Keep in mind when you switch to different ammo you may not see good groups till you shoot 10 or so rounds of that different ammo as wax/lube will be different etc.

That's like saying Mobil 1 is the best oil. Eley makes 5 grades of .22 ammo currently it looks like as well as hollow points and pistol specific ammo. The top grade Tenex is $19.50 for a 50 round box. There are other brands just as accurate at similar prices and grades. Guns will shoot one ammo better than another.

Doesn't matter because OP is looking for "quiet" ammo that's more accurate than his CCI. There really aren't any other 700 fps .22 ammos out there. Aguila has a 20 gr/420 fps ammo that I've never tried.

Chris are you shooting off a bench of some kind? Factory open sights? How big is the group of 10 shots? What is your idea of accuracy? Does your rifle shoot other ammo to your expectations but not the quiet?

And FWIW "subsonic" just means the ammo is leaving the barrel at less than 1125 fps.

Well crud, I have a brick of that - I have not shot it yet.

I used to shoot .22LR labeled zimmerpatrone - I THINK it was made by Remington. It was accurate and quiet, but was not great at making things dead. I'm pretty sure zimmerpatrone means indoor load, more or less. Not sure if you can even find that any more.

Agreed. Guns shoot different ammo differently, no argument there. But I would say that 90% of guns would shoot better starting with Eley or CCI standard lead. Which is why I brought those two up.

As @AZjeff adequately asked of the OP, it really depends on ones idea of accuracy. I used to shoot rimfire bullseye matches, one with a tricked out 10\22 i built, and the other with a Ruger American 17hmr, which was nasty out of the box. We had to be within a dime size dot at at 100, on a single sheet of paper with 50 dots on it. One shot per dot. I did get a 50 out of 50 once, and won the match, the next guy had 49. Typically I would get 46-48, usually the winner was 49

My favorite was the same match at 50 with irons.

I am kind of torn between copper jacket and lead. I bought some winchester 36grn hp 1290fps a while back and I might get a 2'-3'' group at 100 in a 10/22. I can feel and hear the inconsistency. Same ammo in my 17-5 Masterpiece, and it is deadly accurate, for a 6'' revovler
 
Try to find some 22 short hollow point. I have had great 25 yard accuracy with it in both a bolt action and lever action.
 
@burbguy82 , your idea of accuracy aligns with mine. Past experience with NRA smallbore silhouette shooting and son was very involved with NRA smallbore 3P matches all the way to Camp Perry.

The OP's bore or chamber might be lead or copper fouled. He still hasn't mentioned his accuracy expectations or if other ammo delivers acceptable accuracy if used right now. When changing ammo we used the 1 shot per inch of barrel method to season the barrel to the new ammo and sometimes it took more to settle down.

There are lots of choices of subsonic ammo available but it's all going to be louder than the CCI Quiet @ 700 fps.

And if anyone tries the Aguila Colibri 20 gr stuff MAKE SURE you see a hole in the target after each shot. It's known to squib in longer barrels.
 
Subsonic ammo is usually more accurate as bullet doesn't go thru supersonic to subsonic transition in its flight (before hitting target) which makes bullet wobble. Subsonic .22lr ammo is normally good to shoot to 200 yards due to bullet drop and scope vertical adjustment limits. Shooting to 300 yards is normally done with supersonic ammo and scopes with greater elevation adjustment and scope bases or rails that give another 20 to 40 MOA elevation. Most shooters use MRAD reticles.
