Is there a locksmith or picklock in the house?

I am looking for a key for my (almost) antique lathe's wooden box. I am not exactly sure what the proper type key is called. It's definitely the same type of key shown in the picture below, which is too small. It's a hollow skeleton or hollow barrel key for a very simple ward lock, I believe.

Any idea what this type key is called, and where I might find one?

A piece of wire bent into L shape works just fine. I just want a key for the sake of having a key that fits.

That thumb of yours doesn't look like you change oil very often, or do much of anything physically. Or, did you hire a stand-in? j/k

Well, you see, I don't dig in [censored] for a living. I don't consider filth a badge of honor. I use gloves and I even wash my hands. You should try it on occasion.

I work in a cleanroom where we wash our hands every time before we enter and then put on gloves, AND THEN we wash the gloves off with Alcohol Wipes. I already washed my hands 6 times and only have been up 2 1/2 hours...

Are you Jan Itor from Scrubs?

Alright, back on topic (selfish me!): what do you call the type of key I show in the picture, and where to find one?

Skeleton Key.

I found this under the skeleton key section of wikipedia. It's a (skeleton) barrel key.

Quote:
Bit keys and barrel keys can be newly-minted (and sold by restoration hardware companies) or antiques. They were most popular in the late 1800s, although they continued to be used well into the 20th century and can still be found today in use, albeit in vintage homes and antique furniture. A bit key is distinguished from a barrel key in that a bit key usually has a solid shank, whereas a barrel shafted key can be made either by drilling out the shank from the bit end or by folding metal into a barrel shape when forging the key.

Whenever, on wikipedia, I look up a topic about which I am informed rather well, I find blatant errors. I am hesitant to take wiki info as gospel, even if I myself believe what I read to be true.

Wiki is ok for general topics. There are also many printed books that are full of bullocks sitting on library shelves everywhere.

Books may be full of bollocks. The bullocks are in the barn without their bollocks.

Chieflittlehorse may be a bit slow in the video, I almost nodded off a few times, but he seems to know what he's talking about.
