i recently got new tires for my kids car. when they were finished i noticed they had put in some longer than stock tire valves. they stuck out past the rim. i had this happen a couple of times in the past . one time they had 2 different lengths on the same car.

So is there a chart or reference that informs the tire installer of what valve to use?

And just to complete the picture, there are different diameters of tire valves. Passenger cars and light trucks use the same diameter. Other vehicles vary from there. Those giant earth mover tires take a valve that is quite large. Even the pressure gauges are different (and larger!).

There's no chart, but there's different lengths of valve stem.
if there is no reference info, how do they know what length to install? i am sure they could just match up old and new, but it seems sometime it just does not happen
