Seems this has died out with tissues taking its place. I still don't know how people thought sticking a dirty rag in your pocket and reusing it was a good idea......gross!

Well, handkerchief is reusable. 100 years ago people didn't just throw stuff away, willy-nilly. Yeah, we can argue about sanitation, but things were different back then.

It's been obsolete for a long time. About the time milkman stopped delivering milk to my front porch at 4am.

The big ones (manly ones), they make for really nice Barbie or American Doll blankies...

I keep some in my "good" coats.
uses:
-small children car sick
-small children sick
-small children nose cleaning (if paper tissues are buried in a big women bag/kids backpack)
-small children toy keeping together
-me sweating profusely (nice shirt, cannot wipe face)

Mind asking, how long ago was it? I seriously am not aware of it

I was helping the dairy store ladies at 3:30-4 am to unload the metal cases with glass milk bottles from the non-platform truck in the 90's in a country far-far-away...
People where sometime in line from 12-1AM...

Imagine my shock couple times when i was left without milk couple times because it sold out....I was helping them because i lived next door.

In about '93, more milk processing facilities appeared and they changed to plastic bags.

So bigger distribution network an I could sleep like normal people to 6AM...

Oh no, I still have a double breast suit in my closet, do you think it will come back in style?

I can recall being sick as a kid with my dad in a public place. I'd have a runny nose and he'd produce a clean hankerchief from his pocket for me to blow my nose into.

Having that comfort as a child, v.s. some cheap, and abrasive tissue/napkin (on my soft skin) was an absolute treat. I honestly didn't care if it was used (as long as it was dry), I just needed to evacuate my nasal cavity ASAP! Sometimes it still smelled like "Bounce" dryer sheets.

I remember he used to iron them after they came from the laundry, so not only were they clean and smelling nice but they were impeccable in condition, despite being very old looking. We didn't have much money growing up.

Let's forget chasing the cyclical fashion around and Let's come back to THAT problem for our age: Do I still fit in it?

^^^ small essential detail!!!

I saw some that even my used engine oil rags wipes could not come close...

Large hankies are good for lots of things. Do rag on your head, filtering large debris out of water while hiking, pot holder, the list goes on and on. To blow your nose on....not so much. I prefer the “west VA” hankerchief... plug one nostril with a finger and blow the other clear then switch.

Where do you get a good one? All the handkerchiefs I bought/seen are all cotton and cannot handle machine washing. Threads come out at edges, piling of fabric.

...so I throw them away anyways!
