There's a midas close to where I live and they have a 19.99 special going on right now. I've seen all price levels of cars getting oil changes there and was wondering if anyone knows where they get their oil and filters from? And would using them be good for 5000 mile OCI?

You need to call and ask your local Midas. I don't know that Midas has any national contracts for filters or oils, so calling and asking the local Midas will get you the best answers.

Nearly any SM/SN recognizable brand oil will go 5K miles easily.

Better than not changing it most likely. The one around here uses Valvoline I believe. I'd ask them and even then I'd take it with a grain of salt. For that price they're probably using an oil filter you've never heard of.

Probably better going to the Ford dealer for a $20 oil change using MC syn-blend and a MC oil filter. Go on the Ford dealers website and look for coupons. Keep going to different Ford websites and see if you can find one. When you do ask the original dealer if they will honor the coupon. Works for me with my Toyota when going there.

I would be more concerned about the quality of their work and what they would say your car needed (or worse create the need)

Those specials are considered "loss leaders" they want to get your car in the bay for sales of more profitable parts or services. Some places mandate their techs to have a $75 per ticket average

I know a few guys that work there in my area. They use china made parts plus filters and "house" brand 5w30. In my opinion I wouldn't take it if it was free.

Dont quote me,but I think Parts Plus got the contract for selling auto parts to Midas. So that would mean Parts Plus (Premium Guard) filters ($2.00 pricing),and Parts Plus (either Ashland oil or Amalie) oil.Keep in mind,P P also now sells XL P P filters supposibly good for 10K,and synthetic P P oil...of course all at extra cost.

The lack of a regional retail store does not preclude a national contract for sales/distribution of parts

Hello, The stinking cheap filter is what a bargain hunter need fear. My pal in the engine shop saw more than one destroyed engine when the element in a "Group 7" filter wadded up and plugged the lubrication system. Those were used in "quick change" places.

A company would have to go far-a-field to purchase lousy oil. Cheap filters, however, are delivered anywhere by the case.

Ask about the oil and see how forthcoming they are.

"GO for cheap, GET cheap" is the expression. Alas, just heaving money at something doesn't guarantee quality either. Kira

I go to my local Midas for service work I can not handle and they use Kendall oils and Napa Pro Select filters.

TOTO.

Do what I do. Go buy a filter and oil that you trust, and go to your local garage and pay them the cool 20 bucks to do it. Use one with a lift and a view of the bay, so you can see them put in the product which you brought there.

Put a scratch or other mark on your old filter so you know whether they actually changed it.

Always, always, always check your oil level before you drive away. You want clean oil up to the Full mark (or very close to the Full mark--a mm or two high or low won't hurt).

Look for drips from the drain plug; start the engine and look for a leak from the filter.

YOU GET WHAT YOU INSPECT, NOT WHAT YOU EXPECT.

I'm sure, like most chains, what oil and filters used vary by region. The only way to know for sure is to call or stop by.
