So I have a performance transmission that requires Mercon V.It can create some heat when really beat on, but around 190 is the max temp Ive seen. I plan on doing a pan drain and refill every year to year and a half using standard Mercon V fluid ( Ford approved fluid only ). What Im wondering is if its worth the cost to use Amsoil Torque-Drive over the standard Mercon V? Im sure its a better fluid than standard V and has better characteristics all over ( from heat to cold fluid flow )... If I were to run the Torque-Drive fluid Id drain every 2-3 years as it ( id assume here ) would hold up way better.

What do you all think?

Its in a truck, 6.0l powerstroke. Its a 700 wheel HP truck ( yes true, not seat of the pants dyno )I dont beat on it much, but I do at times. Im thinking it may be cheaper to run the Mercon V off the shelf and C.O the fluid once a year.

ITs about 8 quarts to drain the pan. For me to flush almost all of the Mercon V thats in there out, it'll take 56 quarts and that will leave about 1/4 quart left in the fluid matrix.

Im an Amsoil dealer so it'll be about 600$ to get a 16 gallon keg.

If you are an Amsoil dealer then Pan drain and fill every two years with the TorqueDrive.

16 Gallons should last quite a few years.

Not to be rude, but did you see about the Mercon V still staying behind? It'll be about 1/4 qt left behind, mixed with Amsoil. Thats 56 qts later lol. Maybe I dont need to get that crazy? If I were to do that, then it'll be only 3 gallons left in that 16 gallon keg... I wish I could drain the torque converter...

Not to be ruder, but do you really think 1/4 of a quart left behind is going to make a flea pimple difference?

The answer is no, and in your specific application, TorqueDrive would be a more robust fluid to use behind 700 galloping horses.

What do you mean by "performance" transmission?

Is this a rebuild of a factory transmission, or a Third Party transmission?

Why not do a line e off exchange then a drain and fill with the Amsoil every 2 years?

What transmission holds 56 quarts?

Also, at 190 degrees you are far from abusing the fluid. A 5r110 can run at 230 all day every day and still last 100's of thousands of miles.

On a free way cruise my 2015 ford F150 trans temp is 200*f. I would buy Mercon V and save the money for when the trans breaks. Oil No matter how expensive will not prevent parts breaking.

A big one.

He's got a 700hp 6.0 PSD, I'm sure he's already got a repair savings account

No, it's not.

Additionally, you're not even in the ballpark in regards to transmission fluid capacity.

Pretty sure he's talking about 56 quarts of drains, exchanges, or pan drops until he gets to nearly pure Torque Drive.

I think Transynd and their clones are great fluids, but if I were you I'd buy all the $4/qt Castrol Transmax Mercon V on sale at AAP I could find and change often.

Lol okay. You obviously don't know much about the diesel world. 225/100 injectors with a s467 divided up pipe backed up by a Warren full billet transmission. Full fuel system etc etc. But you're right, it's not.

And yes I'm talking total fluid amount after swap out. It's 18 qts total.

Is this on sale now??

Yes, there's a thread on it the promotions and sales section. They discuss the best flavors of Transmax. and I'm pretty sure Mercon V is one of them.

You remind me so much of kids I went to high school with when they'd talk about trucks; it was always one of two things:

1. Always oversold what their truck had, and what it was capable of.

2. Co-opted a truck owned by someone else as their own.

I'd be willing to bet that you're 18-20 years old with a truck that's all bro'ed out, right?

Castrol Mercon V $4 a quart on sale right now till the end of March at AAP.

I'd assume that TRANSMAX is a good alternative to the ST from Walmart. Both carry the Ford cert which is nice... I guess I'll drive around and grab all I can
