Just noticed today that I have 9,000 miles on my oil in my new engine, after breakin. I'm running a Frantz BP and Amsoil 10-30. TP gets changed every 2500, changed the spin-on twice due to leaking cans. (Napa Gold filters too!)

Is it time for a used oil analysis or should I wait more? Kinda hoping to NEvER have to change my oil again.

Thanks.

Ummm I would run it at least 1 year or 25,000 before I sampled. You can do that without the special filter.

Then go from there.

Good luck

Thanks. I"ll let it ride for a while. Being as how is a carb'd engine, fuel delution is a concern, however the carb is set up good and does not drip down when it sets. I run a 195 thermostat to help in the clean running of the oil too. The Frantz is doing a great job of atleast keeping the oil clean looking.

I"m about convinced that changing the TP every 5 thousand would be fine too. Maybe the oil and spin-on once a year.

I have the Frantz on 2 trucks and just ordered one for my wifes Caprice. Thats the one I'm always forgetting to keep up with.

I have AutoRX in my other truck, been almost a year and I think that my camping trip this weekend will just about put me at the 1500 mark! Finally! It sits ALOT.

speaking from the paranoid side of things ...i would test it! How do you KNOW that your engine/oil/bypass can hack this set up ...I mean I KNOW mine can ...I have done about 8-10 oil analysis at differant times / miles so i can pretty much tell you how many miles I can safely go ...buit you don't know for sure...why not take a smple and sent it off to Butler labs ...i mean it is only 13$$ ..and then you will know for sure ....

BTW I am pretty darn sure you can go 25,000+

I have just been replacing the tp every 2k miles for 12k miles so far. This is on a 4 cylinder 1.9L. In my opinion, I am doing more than what is recommended for TP change intervals. I also change it slightly more often in the winter times as the oil tends to get dark sooner. I'm also using mobil 1 5w30 exclusively and trust in the oil to pull it off. But I do check all the fluids at least every gas change to make sure nothing is wrong (i.e. coolant leak). Maybe if something were suspicious it would warrant an oil analysis but the engine is running flawlessly and starts most easily.
