is it really that bad to rev your vehicle not fully warmed up where i work i look over a main road and every single morning i see a guy with an early 90's f150 start it up and floor it 30 feet to the main street then floor it up to about 50mph. hes done this throughout the whole winter 5 degrees or not i would NEVER do this with my vehicle but the thing is still running good from what i can tell....

what would you say would be a good rev limit before the engines at operating temp it seems like there's always someone on my tail driving out of my addition in the morning beacause i have such a light foot when its not warmed up.

2000 rpm cold with out a load. I think newer engines can tolorate more rpms and are rev limited at cold engine temps.

Yes it can be bad. (Just thinking out loud here) Clearances are not normalized and he's putting a big heat load in to the heads during a time when everthing is "resizing" itself. The oil additive also dont work to well on a cold engine - then again if it built up enough friction - it should activate the EP - but the thick, cold oil isnt getting in quantitiy into the ring pack. Another thing is, he's dumping a lot of fuel in there when its in cold enrichment. Hey some people cant wait to get out of work - maybe he takes frustration out on his poor car - Ive done that time to time - but not everyday.

Recommending an RPM has to depend on the car a little bit.
Try to get my Saturn up to speed on a cold day at under 2k RPMs.

It would take a while. I don't go more than 3k when its stone cold.

I try to keep ot under 3grand on a small 1.5L Maybe more under 2 grand.

I stay under 3000 RPM until the engine gets up to 160* or so.

The neighbors down the street have a Chevy Venture van that gets floored down the road as soon as they start it though. It does run, but sounds awful. It makes that "bbwwwooooooohhhhh" exhaust leak noise that a lot of older V6 FWD GM cars make. This van actually wakes me up in the morning sometimes, it's as loud as the freaking garbage truck.
