Is it bad to store filters outside?

I had stockpiled some filters when they were on sale several months ago - the amazon pureone deal. I have about 10 filters and I have been storing them in my shed. It just occurred to me that the changes in temperature and humidity may damage the element. I am in Vermont and it gets very humid here and there are wide swings in temperature on a daily basis. Should I move all my filters inside?

Not a good idea, not only is it possible damage the element with absorbsion of moisture but it can also lead to corrosion and insect invasion.

even if they are sealed with the saran wrap or the plastic I would still store them inside if possible. throw them in a closet or something like that

Better park your car inside then...

For shorter time periods, not a problem, but with ten filters, what, you'll be using the tenth one in maybe 5 years?

I have about 15 oil filters and 8 air filters and I definitely keep em' inside right next to my climate controlled oil stash!

Well, you see, I thought of that when I was thinking that this was a silly question. But then I thought, well, in the car the filters have oil in them to protect them from the elements. But in a little paper box probably not so much.

I got about 25 oil filters and I keep them inside a closet inside my house where its nice and dry. I would never keep them in the garage.

This fram was stored heck-knows-where since 1986. I have its twin brother on my truck and it's doing fine. Both were bought at a yard sale several years back. The box has a vehicle cross reference that runs out in 1986 and a "zayre" price tag.

But I store my filters in the house for the reasons listed above. Oil can stay wherever, for all I care. Sometimes I crack open a half-dissolved case to find bottles "sweating" with dew.

Wow "Zayre" all those closed in Florida in the early 80's. I would be worried that the media has been eaten by Roach's, maybe you could cut one open, and show us how Fram was once a well built filter, it would be interesting to see.

Why not rub some oil on the metal around the gasket then put it in the filter box on the shelf to protect it from rust? You could enclose it in a plastic bag if worried about bugs, or fill it with oil and put it in the box enclosed in a plastic bag if worried about moisture.

I just spread a little oil on the metal around the gasket and close the box but thats because I dont buy several filters at a time. If I did maybe I'd fill them with oil to prevent moisture or rusting inside. Keeping them in the house I have wouldnt keep them away from moisture and rust.
