Is CD-2 "MAXX" a substitute for SLOB?

I can't seem to find SLOB in the Big Lots here (panic setting in!!), but I did find CD-2 "MAXX" at the local Ollie's. SLOB's part of the CD-2 line, so, any chance it might be similar?
They have two different bottles of the MAXX, one's silver, and one's black. They both say "contain anti-wear additives that older engines require". What do you think?

Well the only way to tell is a VOA or if the reps at Turtle Wax (owns CD2) will tell you. Couple years ago I emailed them about SLOB and they gave me the zinc and phosphorus content. Worth a shot for the MAXX. Also ask them about the difference between the two color bottles.

I thought I saw in one thread (maybe was on SLOB) that the STP Oil Extender was on sale for $2 somewhere (BLs maybe?). That stuff also was supposed to have extra zddp. But if in the amount of the blue and red bottles, not half as much as SLOB.

TallPaul. I was in the States the other day and I searched
all over. I couldn't find Slob; CD-2 Max; VSOT; Val.Maxlife
Engine Protector. Nothing. I went to 4 auto stores, Big lot
etc. I'm going to use 5w30 Redline as an additive. I think
it would make the perfect additive.

2KBMW. Nice idea to use Redline for an additive. There was a thread recently about that Redline may be developing an actual additive. This is something I called an encouraged them to do a few years back.

Dr. No: Chance of them telling us the levels is slim, but maybe if he gets the right guy.

TP, I thought what you did.. I called back once a week getting the same guy. They only have one tribologist that you can talk to, and I don't even think hes a tribologist...

Well it's too bad then. When I emailed them was a couple years or so back and apparently it's different now. But maybe also because the SLOB was discontinued. The MAXX is still current product I think, so they are tight about the info, as if it would matter if another company got their formulation anyway. Most people buy this stuff on a whim and have no idea what they are getting, so formulation theft doesn't seem like a real threat. It's promo hype that gets the sale, and a product that at least doesn't blow up engines.
