Is 950 labor to remove and replace an engine good?

Found another engine for the S10. Had an engine taken out (old bad one, it is now in the bed of) and another installed (the one from Stups) put in for $450, off the books but at the shop, and oh did that one fail after the dipstick leak all the oil. Bad install.

I now have another lined up and this one wants $950 labor to remove/replace (pull) the engine and bolt up the new one I found. It is on the books, receipt.

Is this a good price? Does it usually cost more? Can I find for less?

If it is, then I will drop the car off while I go to the airport in the other one.

Sounds like a good price. Some of it depends upon whether or not they need to swap "tin" and manifolds.

Sounds decent. Does the shop guarantee the motor or just the install??

I paid $1100 to have my '98 4.3 Bravada motor pulled and put back in. That was almost 6 years ago.

Around here that would be a good deal at a shop. For someone off of Craigslist with you helping it would be less.

I paid 450 to have a mechanic pull the blown up motor out of my Nissan and install another motor.

I supplied the motor and tranny mounts, and he replaced those as well.

For a complete Re and Re...that's a very fair price. Make sure it includes all fluids and your are golden.

I paid $650 when I had it done in our old Saturn; but that was 8 years ago; and it was the cheapest mech I could find. Real good guy too.. wish he was local.

That's probably a fair price.

Agreed. They should want you back in a week to check everything and change out your oil and filter. If they know what they are doing that may be a great price...
