is 80/90 too thin for a 10 bolt with a big block?

I have a Big block chevy with a lot of power, i have a well built 10 bolt 8.5 rearend, I have an Eaton posi. My rearend builder suggested valvoline 80/90. Someone els told me to run straight 140wt. What do you guys recommend. Eaton says not to run synthetic, but i have heard there isn't anything wrong with it. SOmething to do with the clutches, i am more worried about which weight. THANKS!

140-250 thicker is better in a gear set as far as wear and scuff protection goes use the heaviest you can that will flow at temps you would drive in.

If you're going to race, try our "Mid-Viscosity"
racing lube which has a viscosity (thickness) half-way between a 75W90 and a 75W140 with lots of EP adds.

Personally, I think Molakule nailed it. Main thing with shock loads is EP additives, that is your savior. Viscosity, we always ran on the light side, just to cut resistance wherever possible, plus at the track the lube never got really warm. Street applications are different.

You are sure you are running an Eaton limited slip and not the Eaton locker right? Eaton lockers do bad things on drag strips.

Yes, it is a limited slip. This car won't see the drag strip but will see the road course and lots of street time so it will get HOT. I think the molakule sounds good, never head of that brand, is it pretty popular over here?

yes I saw, that is the first time I have heard of that brand, just wondering if it is pretty popular on this board, or what people think of it. thanks
