Im just a little lost with an explanation to why my gravity fed HWC cylinder delivers yellow/brown water.
This does not happen all the time. If it did then we could all say "pin hole in the coil"..."new cylinder".
Theres a little more to this i think.
The cylinder is approx 6 years old. A foam insullated copper cylinder. Installed in very much a standard way to a british 1975 build, 3 bed house. Gravity HWC and fully pumped heating (f&e). The cold water storage tank was renewed some 5 years ago, to a plastic product. Of which ive checked for foreign objects. All looks clean up there.
All cold services run clean, from basins, baths and kitchen mains.
Its the next bit that confuses me. When the HWC is up to temperature(60deg)the hot water runs hot and clear all day. Its when the cylinder is full of lukewarm water it starts to run yellow/brown.
Fill basin after basin and every time you get a bowl of yellow lukewarm water.
So what ive tried is; reheat the HWC to temperature. Let it sit for an hour. Then turn cyl stat up to 70deg and heat further to get movement/flow though coil. (wait 20mins). Now if there was a pin hole or split in coil it would surely disturb and discolour the sat 70deg water... so i run hot tap for 2,3,4 minutes. All i get is hot and crystal clear water.
Just what i want!!
But can you tell me why it runs like diluted heating water when its lukewarm. Is there a pin hole????
