Iranian drone engine

I was curious about the engine used in Iranian drones. They are a reverse engineered copy of a German made four cylinder air cooled two cycle aircraft engine making 50 hp.

Mods, I have included a page from Wikipedia to show what this engine looks like in its German configuration.

Air cooled boxer engines have been a favorite of mine forever. The Citroen air boxer 4 cyl used in the GS was also fitted to some small aircraft.

I recall one drone engine recovered in Ukraine had an early model three cylinder Bombardier See-Doo engine.

Sure appears like it. That rocket motor looks like some sort of JATO (jet assisted take off) to gain altitude and airspeed quickly in the absence of a runway, ie; field launch from a stationary transport vehicle. The drone does seem like it will be recoverable/return to base for reuse vs. sacrificial deployment.

A glorified weedwacker engine that wears out in 20 hours is probably okay in this application.

I hate 2 stroke engines.

They are slow and noisy. Maybe 90-95% shot down. War head, 30-40 pounds max??

I find UAV engines to be fascinating but don't consider myself particularly educated.

I did find it interesting that there are a lot of UAVs powered by our friend Felix Wankel. The fact that they produce more h-pees for a given engine weight apparently was very appealing (also the lack of smog testing)
