I was on the g6ownersclub forum and saw the add on the left and clicked it. Seems pretty cool, download the app and use the ODB-II connector and you can read codes, check economy, and more. But it costs $170+. What do you all think? Worth it?

The OT-2 is a simple device that wirelessly connects your iPhone or iPod Touch to your vehicle. When used with the free Logworks Mobile app, the OT-2 transforms your iPhone into a wireless:

Gauge or digital dash
Data logger
Dyno
OBDII Scan Tool
Efficiency Meter

I think that is a really cool device and with the number of ipods and iphones on the market it could be very popular. Something like this was going to be made, it was only a matter of time. crw is right that the price will come down. It is priced way too high for what it is.

Yeah I'll wait on it, seems really cool and very convenient. Throw the cable in my glove-box and I always have my phone on me

It has the cool factor for sure. But for $170 this is throw away technology (iPhone) that future support may or may not be there for connector and future releases of iPhone/iPad platform.

Unless you have a really troubled car(s), how many times are you going to use this?

Its a convenient tool I would think. It is for both the Iphone/Ipod Touch.

I think the support would still be there given that most of the Iphone software is back compatible with 1st gen Iphones still. Or you can just chalk it up as the scanner breaking.

why are OBD II code readers so expensive anyways? I mean can't people just make the darned cables cheap and make a female usb end on the other end to hook your cell, ipod, laptop, mp3 player, etc. into and use a simple freeware to decode what is being transmitted? My gosh, it is 2010 after all and technology is evolving daily. I guess I should just stop complaining and design it myself and make a filthy fortune huh?

Yep, pretty much. I got a $40 scanner from a pawn shop for the VW, because I use it WEEKLY (not an exaggeration!). But aside from the VW, I rarely use it.

The Kiwi OBD 2 plug in scanner/live data/mileage meter is $200.00, the Edge, Bully Dog, and Hypertech versions of the same are even (way, for some) north of there!!

So that price ain't bad, especially if you already own an iphone/ipod.

I'm even thinking about finally getting an ipod for this reason alone.

Pretty cool. For reading codes and erasing I got a 160.00 one. I should of gotten a cheaper instead. Live data would be nice. Finding one that reads transmission temp would be better.

I believe there used to be something like this for the Palm. Makes good sense that there be one for the apple and android platform at least.

The more capability, the easier to justify the cost. Currently I cannot.
