Its basically a 2tb hdd in a case with a processor that runs linux and a gigabit ethernet port.

I'm testing one of these for deployment as a backup system. The owners are cheap cheap cheap so this fits the criteria.

So far I've been impressed average speed is 30-50
MB/s

Cost was 119$+ free ship including the 2tb drive.

It has tons of other features I haven't explored.. ie CLOUD features and twonky media server etc.

It also has 2 usb ports for adding storage or a printer.

You could easily put 2 3tb usb hdds on this and max out the usb transfer rate.

Not sure how dependable it will be I'm currently copying 1.4TB to it as a starter test.

another option would be something like

Western Digital 3TB My Book Live Home Gigabit

I has some experience with some older consumer grade nas devices and basically they were slow slow slow even with gigabit.. like 10-12MB/s slow

I built my own freenas box for home use.. but this is alot easier to support in a small business environment where the owners are so cheap they didnt even want backups etc.
