Need to move quick on a internal hard drive for my Toshiba Satellite Laptop. I have had the computer since February, 2009 and the second drive is getting ready to woof. The original was a fujitsu and when that went three months ago, replaced it with a Toshiba. The Toshiba has a three year warranty on the drive, so I intend to definitely follow up on the warranty, but I need a drive PDQ because I need the computer this weekend. Open to any and all suggestions for best bang for the buck hard drive. Thanks in advance.

Western Digital Scorpio of any size. Best Buy sells them. I don't know any other brick and mortar stores that sell it, and newegg wouldn't be able to get it delivered by tomorrow.

And Wow. Only a year & a half on the first drive, and three months on the second? What luck. I hope the next drive outlives your laptop.

Yeah, you've run into some bad luck with drives.
If you have the extra $$, try the Intel 80GB SSD drive rather than a typical spinning disk...

if you keep having bad drives, you might want to see what you are doing differently than others.
mishandling is the #1 cause of drive failures, either by you or the seller/installer.
WD and Fujitsu are usually both pretty reliable on the more mature model. If you are worried buy something small and older, in retail package (more cushioning, less shipping damage), and check newegg review for reliability.

I keep getting the windows warning in regards to the hard drive plus it took 20 minutes to boot up the laptop and get on the site.
The last drive started doing the same thing before it totally woofed. Went to Microcenter today and ended up with the WD Scorpio drive. It was on sale and I did something that I never do and bought the service plan on the drive (I essentially ended up @ regular price.) With the luck I've had lately, I figure it won't fail if I purchase the policy.
In the hour it took to get in the door (buying a HD on Black Friday is so much fun!) I got to talking to a Gentleman who does a lot of work on computers and seemed to be pretty proficient in regard to computers. His feeling is that because I use this laptop much like a desktop that the drives cannot stand the rigor that a desktop HD can. As I am typing this, I just got the "Windows detected a hard disk problem" warning again. Although once I get the computer going, it seems to work reasonably well as far as web surfing.
