Both interior back doors don't work, exterior work.

Took the inside door panel off. Installed the new handle but didn't release the door. I followed the door handle metal cable back
but couldn't really get a look at where it was attached. I felt it was attached and try to guess what was
happening by pulling the metal cable.

Any advice or pics?

Latch failures are extremely common with the handles and lock actuators. We used to stock 2 complete sets for Explorers but now they are all special order.

The ones I've seen are a plastic lever right on the edge of the door itself near the latch. Usually the words locked and unlocked are stamped in the metal.

Both rear doors have the same condition- you cannot open from the inside ? That has got to be some sort of child-proof latch. It could be a latch on the door itself, perhaps some electric button on the dash or console ? Check your owners manual, especially the index for anything related to "child".
