My brother used to be a service manager for a Volvo/Jag dealer. I asked him once where he got his oil. He said the owner bought it in bulk from a local guy. This guys oil wasn't even a name brand. They were using it in all their cars. When I asked my brother about engine failures... he just shrugged and laughed... "you don't get it do you... We don't care... we get more warranty work!"

For whatever reason... They loved billing the parent company. $$$. Ever since then I have a hard time not seeing what goes in my engines...

Alot of garages do that. Thats why I have a hard time on here understanding why so many people worry about warranty work being rejected, dealerships love warranty work they make money on it. What agrevates me is on Our Lincoln it had a four year service agreement, they changed oil, Iam sure but I know they didnt change the transmission fluid or coolant like they claimed, when questioned about it, I was told. Dont worry we have it on record it was changed as spec'd if you have any problems bring it back in. What about after the 50,000 mile warranty is up? WELL TRADE IT IN OF COURSE. I guess you get what you pay for, although Iam sure they billed Ford for the services.

I have worked for almost a dozen dealers across America- I was a mechanic. They use whatever oil is the cheapest that month when they fill the tank. The OEM filters are always used, but the oil is luck of the draw, usually Pennzoil, or Quaker state. Valvoline usually costs a little more as does Castrol. The ani-freeze used is whatever is on sale at the local store, we never used the factory stuff. Sad but true.

When I worked at a quickie lube...when the 5w30 tank was topped off they would pump whatever was left in the truck into the 10w30 tank...bottled oil with 1/4Qt and 1/2Qt left in them would be dumped into the bulk tanks of their respective weights...well this only occured when there were to many open bottles...250 gallon tank of Mobil Clean 10w30 was mixed with maybe 50 gallons of 5w30 Mobil Clean and then sprinkled with an assortment of half full bottled oils of all makes...most people wouldn't care if they knew...to them oil was oil...

Our top sellers were...
1.Mobil Clean 5w30(bulk 5w30 this is not 5000)
2.Mobil Clean 10w30(bulk...)
3.Quaker State conventional 5w30
4.Motorcraft 5w20 synthetic blend
5.Pennzoil conventional 5w30
6.Pennzoil conventional 10w30
7.Valvoline 5w30
8.Havoline 5w30
9.Castrol 5w30
10.Rotella 15w40
