Upgraded my rear diff cover on my 9.5” 12 Bolt AAM axle 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 with 10.6k miles. I had to use a small breaker bar because GM uses red loctite on all cover bolts 🙄. Old cover didn’t have too much crud on the magnets but there was several break in flakes in the drain pan. Fluid was still pretty clean. Not really a fan of GM 75w-85 spec. So glad It was out. Poured in a little shy of 4 quarts of Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-90 in. Total capacity increased about 1 quart. Old rubber gasket was reused.

Went to website - better design than the flat backers …

You should go to Banks Power on you tube and watch all his videos on his testing after market diff covers and why they are a bad idea.

My cover isn’t flat like the one he tested. I’ve yet to see a worn out axle because of a cover. If both of my WW2 Jeeps have their original pinions and bearings in immaculate condition with 1940s cast iron covers. I’m fine. Amsoil severe gear will protect my axle more than I’ll ever need.

He didn't test just one.

If you take a look at my specific part# you can see it differs form the bigger trucks. It has round profile similar to oem. Your just using blanket statement to condone all aftermarket diff covers. Banks doesn’t make a cover for smaller trucks.

Not really. He shows how the factory covers got it right.

I'm not familiar with your cover but it would be an interesting eye opener for you to watch his videos on aftermarket diff covers. It's, at least, a three part series.

One video isn’t a blanket statement for all covers. While some PPE covers may be flat. Atleast the one I have follows the ring gear curvature like the oem. No idea it’s just my model. However not all covers are completely flat.

I don't have a diff cover and I have seen his videos, thanks. 👎

Nice piece OP. I have fill and drain plugs on my IRS diff of the Tahoe. I’ll prob also go with a 75w90.

Now if only the front diff cover came out cause I’m not a huge fan of (a) dropping a cover ever time or (b) sucking the fluid out. But it is what it is.

It is dumb GM got rid of drain and fills on the front diffs.
