I am trying to find a schematic of the insides of a heat pump compressor ( or home air conditioning compressor), but everything I’ve seen shows a black vertical tube about 10 inches in diameter and 20 inches tall. Does anyone have a schematic showing the working parts? I am familiar with a car AC compressor but it must be different given the outside dimensions. Thanks.:)

So far I have found this video showing the schematic of the scroll compressor. Most of the 20 inch tall "tube" houses the electrical motor and the scroll compressor is shown at the top. The explanation on the scroll compressor starts at around 5:15. Enjoy. The next challenge is to look at the actual parts and also find out what they consider to be a " two stage" compressor. I'll keep searching but if anyone else out there already knows where to find the info, I would appreciate it. Thanks. Snag.

The compressor does not reverse. They have a reversing valve. orfices with check valve when the flow reverses. Some have actual flow control devices of various sorts.

Almost all acs are going to be scroll compressors same as most cars too. and the only real difference from an AC to heat pump is the reversing valve to change direction of the refrigerant flow.

Two stage just means two speeds. Often a low which is 30-40% of the unit and full speed 100% of the units capacity. Variable speed units can usually runs at any capacity between 30-100%.
