Inexpensive rivet tool?

I have one that looks identical, it works OK.

But I doubt I paid that much for it.

Could you not borrow one?

The HF one looks to be the same. I'm sure it will work just fine.

I also have a better quality tool I bought in the UK, it akes less effort to pull, and can get in tighter places, but only take 1/8"rivets.

Get the HF one. Nicer riveters might work better in the "post rivet action" like shaking out the old "stem" so a new one could be loaded. But they all work the same.

The HF one comes with the 3 sizes of rivets and works fine. Grab some coupons, I got 20% off and a free digital volt meter. I think I paid like $4 out the door.

If you want inexpensive, this is the best bang for the buck.
I'm still using the one that I bought off a clearance end cap at Quality Farm and Fleet for $4. 20 years ago.
Unless you plan to make a living using it, this is plenty good enough.

Harbor Freight is great for cheap tools. Last year a Poplar tree in my yard blew over in a storm. My HF $44 electric chain saw got it cleaned up. Used their $10, 1/2 inch torque wrench to replace the head gasket on my Dodge about 5 years ago. The riveter just got done patching some fender rust holes with sheet metal. The car is too old to do fancy repairs.

You can use a small sledge hammer as an anvil and a ball peen to flare the tip.

Or just wait till the motion pro kit goes on sale at cyclegear, for about 20 dollars or so.

Edit I thought this was for a motorcycle chain, so never mind.

Take advantage of their coupons if you shop there. I get them in the mail because we have a store in town. Stopped in yesterday and used my coupon for a free 24 pack of AA batteries. They give a lot of free products away, some with no purchase required. The 25' tape measure is really nice for free, no purchase just walk in. http://www.harborfreight.com/#

Yesterday stopped by local HF to pickup up 3 free items: 25' tape measure, flashlight and digital multimeter, once at a time without purchasing anything.

Last month pickup 2 free items: 24 pack batteries and flashlight, didn't buy anything at that time too.

Both times most customers in store had at least 1 free item, some bought something else and just got free stub.
