Induction service Question

If I wanted to do an induction service on my 04 STi, ive been told that I could use multiple different things through the intake piping.

I like the idea of using a spray bottle full of boiling hot water on a hot engine, apparently this melts away carbon?

Another recommendation was sea foam in a spray can.

In any case, what can I use in a "spray" form, to clean out my upper end, aka induction service?

The Subaru dealers have a pressureized can of top end cleaner for your Suby. I have seen excellent reports, using their stuff. Go to www.NASIOC.com for some Subaru information.

Subaru dealers usually use the BG44k product line. You could use seafoam, I have had good luck with that on my 3 Subaru's.

How do you apply it? Through the intake piping?

Im probably gonna get a can of B12 Chemtool and use that in a spray can on a hot engine through the intake piping, thoughts?

My only concern is if I enter the chemtool into the intake piping it would be before the maf.

Any brand intake cleaner sprayed through the throttle body will work. I would not spray through the air intake ducting nor would I spray anything but electronics cleaner through a MAF sensor. You could also spray some cleaner through the brake booster vacuum line and through the PCV valve.

Hi Vspec. I use a couple steps on the Subaru's. First is to get at the throttle butterfly (I don't think yours has the drive by wire throttle) and spray it down with throttle body cleaner and brush with soft brush. Yes some automakers say not to touch the throttle butterfly with anything.

Then let some seafoam get sucked in through a vacuum line preferably on the top of the intake manifold so it distributes to all the cylinders.

Next figure out where your IACV intake is; on my '00obw it's right on the top of the intake right before the throttle butterfly. While running at idle it needs to suck some cleaner up in there.

However since you have the turbo it might be a little different.

I guess taking the throttle body off the engine for cleaning would be out of the question then huh?

It can be taken off provided the user has a new gasket on hand. On Subaru's I've found there's really no need to take off the throttle body to clean it; it's relatively easy to get at in place. Plus then you don't have to mess with the throttle cables and stuff.
