I have an 03 Corolla S with a cabin filter. After pricing one at the dealer (the only one available)for $42, I went to my local HVAC air filter shop. They made me a washable lifetime one in a nicely welded aluminum frame for $18. That was 3 years ago. I take it out and was it every 2-3 months...works great.

Smart man. I think I have a cabin filter in my 91 Stanza, and I know it is time to replace it. I guess this could be a viable option for me...

BTW, what is the material the filter is made of?

It's a metal mesh with a fiber pad overlay. Screen on both sides of that.

No thanks are necessary. We are all in this together.

I went out last week and pulled the cabin air filter out of my 2002 Infiniti I35. A placard on the glovebox door indicated the filter was washable, and as it was pretty dirty , and I didn't have a replacement, I washed it. The filter had a p/n 27274-4Y110, which I haven't been able to cross reference anywhere, and had "vinylon" printed on the filter - is this the material it's made of? I'm not completely satisfied with the washing, so I plan on replacing it when I find a reasonable priced filter. Cheapest one I've seen goes for $48.96!!

Is there a noticable difference in air quality between the charcoal impregnated one and the regular filters? Allergy season is right around the corner. I don't know if the extra money is worth it though.

Lukey

The charcoal is impregnated into the media that already removes the allergy particles.

I had a test filter ( Kleener brand) on my old Taurus. My brother came to town, we drove to Austin..he said " how come I don't smell the diesel exhaust from the trucks"..So I explained it to him. I also never smelled any dead skunks when driving either.

Gotta keep the windows rolled up..

I have a 04 Nissan SE-R and tried to buy a filter from Wix but they didn't have any. Went to the Nissan dealer and bought one for $30. The labor however is $50 to install. They give you a paper on how to put it in but I can't find the black hex nut.The frame of the glove box must be pulled out far enough to allow the filter to be installed. Anyone have a clue as to the wearabouts of this black hex nut.

I found a easy way to install by NOT following directions. The black hex nut is down by the floor and needs not to be removed. After the screws are removed the glove box frame just pulls off. Pop odd the filter cover and your done. My filter for 17000 miles was full of bugs and dirt so a 1 year change is a good idea. The A/C cools much better now too.The Home Depot salesman showed me how it was snaped on. He also raced Mustangs a mechanic and a salesman wow!

micronaire, bosch, etc... all "make" cabin filters.

the orig. one from my car was made by micronaire, but i'm sure one company produces them and the others market it.

wow. i know i said a few posts ago that the charcoal filters were only a few dollars more, but they seemed to have jumped up in price.

they were only $5 more than the non, but now they are $36.79 for the bosch (it doesn't say how many are in the box - my accord needs 2) and 39.99 for the ac delco which is very poorly made with less pleats.

things aren't looking so good. might have to downgrade.
