There is another possible solution. Catz makes a device that increases the voltage to the stock bulbs. It is adjustable and you can set it at a value that works well for you. It works very well and the bulbs last longer than you might think. The increase in brightness is on the order of 50%.
As you would expect, the car's harness has some voltage drop, yet the bulbs are designed to operate at 14V +- 0.5V. So, simply bringing the bulbs up to 15V
