I started using synthetic (PP and Ultra later) in my 2008 Impala at around 24,000 miles. After a couple of OCI's I noticed the car was using about 1/2 qt. of over a 5,000 OCI (I know, not a big deal). I also noticed some "weeping" at the rear oil seal (not enough to drip). The last 2 OCI's I did a "Kreen" clean with Pennzoil Conventional and decided to do a follow-up interval with Pennzoil Conventional...ended up running it almost 4,000 miles before changing it out today. The oil didn't budge off full and there didn't seem to be ANY sign of leaking. I filled it with Ultra again but am wondering if I should go back to the Pennzoil Conventional at the next change, run it 4,000 miles and call it a day.

Is the car still under warranty, if so you could get the "weeping" looked at at the dealer.

You sure it's the rear seal? These engines have bad rear head gaskets that leak oil and coolant. Just had them done under warranty in my mom's 2007 Impala.

Head gaskets were replaced under warranty at about 65,000 miles. The warranty is good to 100,000 miles. I'll run this OCI and see how it looks...if the seal is "weeping" I'll have it checked out by the dealer.

Use the oil that stopped your weeping and controlled the oil use. Don't go back to the oil that initiated the weeping despite the experience or claims from other. Don't be stupid.

If the level remains at the full mark on PU your leak is resolved. Use whichever, however if the leak resumes go back to the Pennzoil conventional. Extended OCI are one reason for the ultra.
