...calls his patients on the phone to check on them.

I've subjected the BITOG community to some rants about my medical experiences, and my ongoing abdominal pain saga, but I have only praise for my doctor. He called me at about 7:20 this morning to apologize for the fact that I wasn't able to get satisfaction from his staff. We talked for about 10 minutes, during which time he expressed his own frustrations with the system that he is involved with, and what he's doing (which includes moving to another office which he won't share with other doctors) to remedy some of these problems. He said, "I don't understand why we can put a man on the moon, but I can't get a decent phone system in a medical office."

He said that he had been so frustrated that he actually thought about giving patients his own cell phone number. I told him I didn't think that would be a very good idea! Nonetheless, he is going to set up his own answering service that reports only to him, so that he will actually get messages.

I've had this doctor for about 20 years, and we've been able to hold on to him through various insurance changes and so on, and I'm very thankful. One of these days, he'll retire, and then I don't know what I'll do.

Actually, we can't put a man on the moon anymore. We can't even get to the space station without hitching a ride with the Russians.

I'll just sit and shake my head, not because I disagree with you, but because the enormity of the situation you described is soul-crushing.

Me thinks the good doc should have had a few cups of coffee and called after 800AM. Before 800AM is strictly verboten. But other than that, good for him.

Went to my GP today. She did not ask me how I felt or why I came in, just "boy you have not be in for a long time" (three years)
