I'm Planning on Going Back to work.

Interesting...I'll be 59 in a few months. Retired in 2022 after 36yrs. 55/30 out. Pension stopped increasing after the "30" number, so why stay ? Utility Company in NY. Con-Ed. Now I'm pullin my hair out. Gonna find a job somewhere, but can't go back to Utility, even as a sub contractor super. Against the "rules". But, if you're lookin to do this part time, to keep yourself busy, interact with other people, just feel " wanted" again, then the $$$$ doesn't really matter. A bump to say $75 no benefits would be nice. It's more of a sanity thing, get the brain workin a bit, I think anyway. A break from the same ole--same ole routine. You'll be up against all new technology, that will sting something terrible..And the new generations. GO FOR IT !!!!! You can always quit if it's too far out of you're league now. I'll probably drive a cab or go work in a supermarket. Have a bad back now. Go stock shelves or drive people around just to break the monotony of retired life. Need to interact with humans again. Have a few " Honey-Do" things on the list to complete, then I go searchin.

50yr Street Mech,

Maybe you should have worked 5-6 more years even if pension got frozen.

My pension was frozen and I will work an extra 5 years to avoid collecting shopping carts at Walmart.

Yes, I understand what you're talking about. But, in the company I worked for, when you hit age 55 and 30 years of service, they made it a point a to make you're life miserable. My job was a Construction Rep, I covered sub contractors in the field. Highest paid Union job. Ex : Quitting time 3:30pm. That's the time you leave jobsite to go home. Who sticks their head out from behind a tree ??? At 3:30pm ??? Their car is hidden. A supervisor checking up on you to make sure you didn't leave early. But, meanwhile, the sub contractor had left a 1/2 hour earlier. VERY MISERABLE WORKING CONDITIONS. If it was a normal job, where they respected their elders, I would have stayed. Average age of a supervisor was in their late 20's. I was EXCELLENT at my job, but as soon as those numbers hit, it was over. You were considered obsolete and overpaid. Basically, they force you out to hire someone at a much lower rate of pay. It's sad :( .... Management only cares about the beans. They know the pension freezes at 30 yrs, and want you OUT. Icing on the cake : The older guys, like me, would get 10-12 crews to cover a day. The younger guys would only get 2 or 3. Shop Stupid was useless in helping to even the playing field. I'll find some B.S. job part time to keep me busy. Working on back surgery recovery now, then some " Honey Do" lists. Fortunately, I'm on my wife's medical, so it's a true full pension. Cab, supermarket, Lowes, Home Depot...whatever..part time only. Don't know if I can do Walmart, that' scraping the bottom of the barrel :)

It wasn't my intention to compare our situations. You are local to your opportunity. I am definitely not local to my situation. Pretty much anywhere I go for my consulting deal, involves getting on a plane. The only way I do my consulting deal, is if they make it worthwhile to me.

I hope your situation proves to be beneficial to you.
Oh yea, totally understand. Yea travel for this gig would not be happening.

My retirement "job" plan is to be a course marshal at our two local golf courses. Get paid to drive around in the golf cart and shoot the breeze with other geezers like me all day. My wife will probably try to dissuade me.
