If Fram is bad, what is good?

Per the talk on this forum, I'm a little worried that my choice of Fram EG filters aren't the best in my Wife's 2005 Civic.

Fram is the only kind of filter I've ever used since I was 16yrs old. I used them because they were what my Dad used. He told me he's been using them since his Dad taught him how to change oil when he turned 16. He said his Dad used Fram. Whenever I go into an auto parts store, I don't even look at the filters.. I just buy Fram.


I hear the Extended Guard is a good filter. Should I go with that or something else? Keep in mind, I don't care if the filter is $3 or 10.. I just prefer quality for every day driving.

For store purchases, Purolator Pure Ones seem to be the #1 choice here for a good filter that won't empty your wallet. For online bulk purchases, you can Wix pretty cheap at filter1.com

For $11-$13, you can get the Mobil 1 filter. If cost is not an issue, this would be my first choice.

For $6-$10, you can get Purolator Pure One, Wix, & Napa Gold

For $5 & under, there is Purolator Premium Plus, Havoline, Advance Auto Total Grip, & Valuecraft (Autozone)

Any of the ones I've listed are better than Fram EG, IMHO.

WIX for under $10. If there's a Motorcraft that fits your Honda, it's under $5.

The Honda OEM oil filter (the one manufactured by Filtech, not the Fram-manufactured one) would be an excellent choice. I purchased 6 of them online from a Honda parts vendor for my sister's 2004 Honda Civic VP.

I think the big difference between now and back when your Grandfather,Father,and mine used fram products they were of good quality. The painful truth is today fram is of poor quality.

Champion Labs,Wix, and Purolator have all worked well for me. I use Wix exclusively now.

Don't let it turn you off. Trust me, it is worth it. I have dealt with them for about a year now, they are terrific to deal with and the prices can't be beat. To open an Amsoil account you would have to do the same plus pay $20 to get nowhere near the pricing on Wix that you get at F1.

Absolutely nothing wrong with FRAM for filters.

The only legitimate argument people here have is that there are better filters available for the money. But if you put a Fram on your engine, nothing bad is likely to happen.

Fram does have great marketing, its just the filters that are lacking.

Fram may not be that bad, but I have never seen a worse filter reported here. Even the cheap house brands, Super Tech, Value Craft, Total Grip, etc. look better inside. Benn running ST on my old truck for a long time. Cut a bunch of them open after use and lookd good. Likely best filter for the buck is the OEM.
