Idemitsu

.
The Amazon Idemitsu store has a 5 qt, case of 4, 5w20 for $129.99 and 5w30 5 qt, case of 4 for $149.99. Those are great prices.
.
On Amazon it shows it's still sold by a third party like Gold Label or GPS...if sold by Amazon I would buy

No I meant the brand. An honest question, I don’t see what is particularly special or interesting about it, other than the name perhaps.
Oh I'm just curious. I want to try out different ones and this one seems harder to find. I went to NAPA today and thet only had transmission fluid and had to order it arrives on Tuesday

You can generally find a top tier oil like Mobil 1, Castrol Edge, or Pennzoil Platinum, etc. on sale in jugs for around $5 a quart at Walmart or Amazon. Idemitsu doesn't provide anything unique.
.
I understand, but it’s not like it is horribly high priced. I only mentioned it because there seems to be folks interested in trying it. Heck, I use HPL so I pay through the nose for oil. Sort of, because I go at least 12,000 miles between changes and sometimes 15,000. I realize too, that I could go that long with M1 EP, but I simply choose to use HPL. At least for the time being. But if I chose to try the Idemitsu it wouldn’t bother me in the least to pay those prices. That is all.
.

Where you guys buy idemitsu from? I don't trust amazon or ebay lol
I haven't purchased or used Idemitsu yet, but my local NAPA has it, and what they don't stock, they will order it in for you. I have been thinking about it on my new Toyota Rav4 requiring 0w-16. I am still undecided.

Still a bit pricy. However if you wait till one of the NAPA 25% off $100 or something, and stocked up - it would be bearable.

Last time I ordered idemitsu was in 2018 was a great price then

I ran clearance idemitsu for around 100k on a few cars. Nothing eventful to report outside of my wallet was heavier as opposed to using hpl or similar.

I'm wondering if because of the 'Shaken Process' (mandatory extensive car inspections in Japan which often make replacing a vehicle more cost effective than fixing it), if engine longevity is less important to Japanese oil blenders? Just a thought.

I did buy some Idemitsu 0w20 when AA put it on 'clearance' a few years ago. It seemed fine but I wouldn't pay more for it than name brand synthetics sold at WM in 5 qt. jugs.

Just about all the Idemitsu oil sold here in the USA is made here also. I doubt they dumb it down for our market. Even their domestic market JASO standards follows ILSAC and API.

Good point but I still don't think Idemitsu oil is worth paying more for than PP, M1, QS etc...

I am definitely not an oil "expert" by any stretch of the imagination. The Idemitsu IFG-7 0w-16 engine oil has a viscosity index of 183. I have read that higher viscosity index oils represent a higher quality base stock. ****ed if I know. A case of four 5-quart jugs costs $163.99 on Amazon. I am not promoting it; I have never used it. I have just checked it out a little. https://www.idemitsulubricants.com/product/idemitsu-0w-16

Not always. As was seen with the mystical Toyota oil, the VI was achieved through a big dose of VII.

This is likely typical Group III base.

I think traditionally, going back a long time, there could be some association with VI and quality of base oil. Now though, you really have no idea as kschachn mentions, since the use of VII appears to have increased in the push for fuel economy. In fact, some of the finished oils with the highest quality base oils are lower VI than these 180-200+ oils.
