Im going to take some pics tomorrow, but we had a pretty big ice "storm" here today/night, especially for Florida. We never get to see it so its a real treat when it happens. It really started coming down around 3 or so, and now my car is completely Iced shut. All the trees are covered as are the roads. Its been dark out since it started coming down hard so I havent seen it, hoping it will stick so I can see it in the morning. This is really rare for us, probably wont happen for another 20 years or more.

You guys from North to South get all the Snow and Ice, and we in Southwest especially So Cal got nothing, for the last 18 months we got less than 4" of rain. The last rain was more than a month ago, and that one was less than 0.1".

I wish I had a job that would allow me to stay home during weather events....good for you!
For better than forty years, I've worked weather events (snow, ice, hurricanes, excessive heat/cold, etc, etc) and any other emergency condition. The only time I didn't work was after both of my by-pass surgeries and even then, stayed in touch via BB and e-mails and such. Our vacations are cancelled when an emergency condition arises.
My neighbors and friends always remark how beautiful our snow is and I just.....uh, look at them like they have two heads!

Crazy weather. My job is about as non-essential as you can get and still be gainfully employed. Plus,I have V-days to burn. I can be a good citizen when our Gov, tells us to stay home. Compared to the chaos resulting from trying to muddle through the ice storm. What if the local powers that be,declare a weather emergency and advised people to keep off the roads for a day or 2? Course, there will be bozos, but the less traffic the better for emergency vehicles. Planes don't fly under certain conditions, why should driving be any differemt?

Sorry, no great story to share, other than it was wet and cold in these parts but stayed in the upper 30's/low 40's - a great day however to clean the shed and sharpen chainsaws and CUT THE DOWADIDDYCITY OUT OF MY THUMB!!!
Moral of the story - do not grab the chainsaw by the chain that you just sharpened! (That, and electrical tape does a great job in taping your now sliced in two thumb back together).

When I lived back in West Chester, PA ( far western suburbs of Philly) There were a number of times that the Governor of PA declared a state of emergency and ordered that all non essential vehicles (except emergency responders) off ALL roads. AS we do get serious blizzard like snow falls from noreasters (over 36 inches of snow in 12 hours! is something that can happen any winter) If ordinary citizens were found on the roads during the emergency and it was not a medical emergency they were heavily fined and the car was impounded ( I believe the fines could top 5000$ (probably for commercial semi drivers) and they did follow through with fines and impounding vehicles too. Good.

Yeah. The coldest it has been so far was 47* That lasted about 6 hours.
