I should have traded the old Volvo in.

Pablo, I looked up a few Volvo boards for you:

These came from a Yahoo search for turbo volvo forum . Google would probably get even more.

Maybe you could register & post an ad in their classifieds. Good luck. I owned a 122/S 4-dr for over 20 years, I've had my Volvo.

Thread for you, Korean Redneck

I know my cars are in better than average condition when I sell them. The first prospective buyer that I can actually rope into my driveway usually pays close to what I'm asking, and doesn't even try to bargain much.

You have to get them in your driveway to actually see and drive the car. You can't charge much more than the average car is worth, unfortunately, because you're competing on paper.

I keep plates and insurance on most of my "for sale" cars and make a point of this on the phone or in the ad. I get a new state inspection too (transferrable) and make mention of that.

You can try selling again in April/May to the "high school safe first car" crowd but they'll only pony up $1500-2000.

Oddly $1500 cars sell much better around than $2500 cars; that seems to be the limit many folks are willing or able to scrape together.

If you get 250k miles a lot of people consider the car used up. I have a high mileage car, an 84 Civic with 381k miles that is in great shape. I drive it every day, but I understand that if I sell the car, I'm selling a used up car of little or no value. Others will not see the value left in the car. They did not do the services, change the oil and drive it carefully. This is a problem for anyone that takes car of their car. For example, what happens if you have an accident and total a pampered high mileage car. You get the same amount that you would get for a beater.

Pablo,

I agree with LarryL. Most people don't maintain their cars the way BITOGers do. For most folks, 250k miles = a smoking rustbucket with bald tires & bad brakes . That's just the way it is......some things will never change.

At this point, I think it would be a noble gesture on your part to donate this vehicle to a worthwhile charity. IIRC, the Salvation Army will actually give the car to a needy family, where people will actually use the vehicle to get to & from a real job. Most other charities will sell the car & use the money in the operations of their charities .

yep, keep extracting utility from it... At the end of the day, what you get for it will have little bearing on if it has 250k or 285k. Its high mileage to the normal person, who, other than the diehard (of which there are very few) will see the goodness of a car that has made it this long.

Me, Id rather buy a new car or one with over 200k with maintenance proof. Anything else is an unknown.

It really is a shame how people automatically curse a car as used up or worthless when it reaches a magical mark $500 in repairs past 60-100k miles. I think that BITOGers, amongst others such as volvo and MB diesel fanatics have proved otherwise... but to the average joe consumer, I suppose they dont really care.

Pablo,

Haven't been following your posts very closely but I thought your were trading the 850 in for the van.

Consider selling the 96 which will be easier to sell and get you more cash. Then keep driving the 240. It's nice to have a vehcile you don't flinch in throwing a dirty lawnmower into the back. If nothing else give me a hollar or post on the BB before you give it for a tax write off.

I'm looking at a new V70 in the next year. Want to keep my 240 for a hauler.

Cutehumor, "Kidney Cars" wanted me to pay them $35 to take away my 12 year old cutlass ciera.

Pablo do you know what engine is in that? As a former Volvo fanatic, I am guessing the B230, maybe B230F but I think that may be a few years too early.

If it by some odd chance has a V6 in it, it may be worth something to some niche collectors.

To avoid eBay's $75 listing fee for a vehicle, you could list it as a parts vehicle...of course, the word "parts" being open to interpretation by both seller and buyer (wink wink, nudge nudge)...

You are asking way to much money no matter the condition. Any car with over 200k or over 10 years old to most people including myself can die at any moment and is consumed.

I think dropping your price by $1000-$1500 and it will be gone. good luck

No way is any 245 turbo (B21FTi) loaded as this car is worth under $2000. Even at 350,000 miles.

We didn't trade the 850 , it's now my work commuter.

As I stated. I will remain patient.

I never have any luck selling cars. The thing I hate the most is when someone calls up and gets detailed driving instructions to your house, tells you they will be there at such and such a time, and never shows up! What is the point? It isn't hard to say 'I'm not interested' on the phone, is it? Don't know how many times that has happened, too many. Rant over......

Good luck!
