I Replaced my PCV valve.

I replaced my PCV valve yesterday. This one was the original and the car just turned 140,000 miles. It is a 1996 Toyota Avalon. It is surprising how smooth the engine is now.

The valve was functioning before but started to get some glitches. I think a little roughness had been going on for years but I just assumed it to be normal. I drive a lot in the local mountains, and mainly noticed in the past two weeks that on long uphill climbs there was a smell of oil, from higher crankcase pressure. My mechanic said the spring was worn out.

The Beast runs nice now.

Might want to check under the valve cover and make sure you do not have a sludge build up from driving with that defective PCV valve that long.

I checked under the valve covers two years ago. The last oil change was 3,000 miles ago and it is on Mobil 1 right now, no sludge under the oil cap right now. I'll keep an eye on it though, and watch the dipstick too. I'll have my mechanic measure the volume as well. It is right now holding exactly 6 quarts oil as I have a larger than OEM filter on it. I average almost exactly 40 miles per day driving so it always heats up to operating temperature. My mechanic has a sort of endoscope to peer inside with.
