I need to ask a stupid question

Is it possible to install a group 78 battery in a 03 Mustang Mach 1? If not, I am not sure what I am going to do with this thing. I bought it with the intention of installing it then I chickened out. It's been about 5 months since I bought it so I'm sure I can't take it back now to O'Reilly's. I tried to have AAA install it but they won't do it.

Unless you are moving it to the trunk, why would you? Ford doesn't use side post batteries.

The physical dimensions of the Group 59 and 78 batteries are similar but not identical. If you have adequate side clearance and the cables will reach, it should work if you get the side post terminal adapters as shown below. Unless it was kept on a maintainer, the battery is likely discharged after 5 months.

I would not feel great about a side post battery in a vehicle designed for top post. Battery slides and both post touch a metal part.
