This is going to be the first oil change i do myself!

-I drive a 2010 G37x (3.7L v6)
-The manual recommends 5w30 oil
-It is recommended to use ester oil (mainly to avoid a ticking sound some owners experience, it occurs early in the engine life and i have yet to get it so im not to worried)
-I was looking its motul 8100 X-max but it doesnt seem to be easily available, Is there any other good ester based oil which is easier to come by?
-If not im wondering what would be a good synthetic for my car (i dont wanna skimp on oil, i wanna get the best i can for a decent to slightly expensive price)

A Final note!
I have 7200Km on my car, i assume there no problem using synthetic!

Thanks!

I hear Redline is a good ester based synthetic to use. I use Pennzoil Platinum in my Toyota; it is great oil and a BITOG favorite! I don't know if there would be any issues with running an oil such as Platinum in a vehicle that recommends an ester based oil. I leave that to my fellow BITOG members...

By the way,

to BITOG!

Many people use non-ester based oils, but IF i were to get that ticking sound, you use an ester oil to remedy it. I have no problem using a high quality synthetic without esters.

I should add my driving style! i generally keep revs low to keep mileage down. BUT i would say i redline 1-4 times a week. And i live in a winter climate (Edmonton Alberta) which is the main reason i wanna switch to synthetic

Do you check out any of the G37 forums? I think this could be a possible marketing ploy/play it safe by Nissan. First Nissan has an Ester based synthetic they sell $$, second they may figure the people who have a car like this will not do their own oil changes because they are too "snooty" (I swear, I have read their target marketing bulletins). Soo, I would change with a good oil like M1, M1EP, PU, PP, etc. I really think you will be totally fine following the recommended OCI's with those oils. So you have a choice...buy ester oils if you have $$ to burn, or stay with the oils mentioned and keep a little hard earned cash in the pocket to pay for things like a vacation to the Bahamas, fillet mignon, a tank of gas etc.

many people dont use Nissans ester oil and are just fine. Apparently its not a real ester oil it has "ester additives". I think if you use nissan's oil i cast like 15$ a quart or something. Im thinking of motul but its a bit hard to find in canada. But im assuming the local shell station will have penzoil ultra on hand. So i may as well just use that. Anything but the junk conventional they use
