I tried Delo 15w40 last year in my Ford v-8, and it worked ok. My pressures were pretty much the same as when i used sae 30. But, i just feel like i get better protection using an sae 30 and not a 15 weight oil that acts like a 40 weight at operating temps. Because it is a dino oil, it is a 15w oil that has viscosity improvers that uncoil and (try to) lubricate when hot. I also don't feel good about the ash level being so high. I know, even though i don't have a cat. converter i still like a straight weight.

I have used Amsoil 30 wt. oil for 15 years and just love it. Being synthetic its properties are like a 10-30 without the VI improvers....just say "NO" to VI improvers

I'm no expert but the way I understand it? 15w40 (or whatever) is not always JUST a 15w with a bunch of VI added. It could be made up of a blend of different wt basestocks with little VI for the far end and some pour depresants used to lower the low end. The additives used could also be multifunctional, adjusting the weight but also performing another desirable function? It's been mentioned here before that VI's, even when sheared, can perform a AW function. Also how do we know that 20w base stock isn't fortified with VI and sold as 30w? making it ez for a small blender to simplify inventory and offer another product? The more I learn about oil the less I find I really know, and the more I trust the guys that actually formulate the stuff, even if they use VI, LOL.
