I don't know what Valvoline was thinking. I'm really afraid its going to make my car stink too. And the leaking will make my driveway smell like a diesel plant?

I don't know but don't want to take a chance. I'm going to see if I can take this back to AZ for a refund.

I'm sure the guys at AZ will get a kick out of your reason for returning it..

Way worse than gear oil. I bought 3 gallons at AZ for the 13.50 special price. I was doing searches earlier about using it in my power steering and came across the following:

DON'T keep the bottle in the car.
DON'T keep any rags in the car that have been in contact with Maxlife.

Whatever Synthetic ingredients are in Maxlife are wonderful in a Transmission or a Power Steering unit.
However, THEY STINK. Literally, they smell terrible.

So I ran out and cracked open a gallon to see for myself. I had read before that it had a pungent smell but never did I think it would be that bad.

It stays in your Transmission.

You only have to smell it for 20-30 minutes max every 20,000 miles.

It works.

Why are you wearing it?
Are you that sloppy?

Dispose of the towels, and spray down your used oil pans with WD40 or Brake Cleaner, and call it a day.

Don't smell it regularly. Geez.

The bolded material below came from one of your posts.

Whatever, if they won't take it back i'll just have them pour it in recycled oil. It's going to cook in the tranny and come out the vent and make the interior smell. Its going to leak, weep and sling out the rear seal and make the whole undercarriage stink.

I'm not going to mess up another car. I bought my TA last summer and it has a gear oil or grease smell to it. I've ripped out the carpet and used a whole bottle of coconut scent on it since then and its still there. Smells like a rat rod or old tractor.

Both of those guys probably overfilled.

You won't smell ATF out of the vent -- if there is fluid coming out of the vent, you've overfilled -- period.

Ever get an auto really hot? You smell it. This fluid will be X10.

It's not going to be for me the way my old stuff leaks.

Seriously? Smell is an issue?

I use Maxlife in my transmission and Maxlife ATF in the power steering. None of them smell much different from other brands. Maybe in Europe they sell Maxlife with different smell. But most importantly as it is closed in the transmission/power steering and as there are no leaks it doesn't smell at all.

It can be the VM. There is one that really smells bad. I had a tin of it with a steel cap and the screw on and it still stank. In fact this vm smelled so bad that it resulted in a plant shutdown a few years ago!
