What do you want to know? That's a 13 cubic inch 5hp flathead. Standard and almost unchanged from the 50's until 2001 when the EPA killed it. One of the best small engines ever made.

The date it was made will be the string of numbers in the 3rd code printed on the engine.

Just curious, what do you mean by that?

Flat heads are not as efficient as OHV, therefor they pollute more. The same reason 2 strokes are slowly disappearing.

Yep, it was a big deal when Briggs stopped the 5hp flathead. It's like the Chevy 350 of the lawn equpiment world. Go kart racers were really really big into this engine - some pushing 25hp - but Briggs stopped making them in '01, and kept a few years stock pile worth of parts they sold as "kits" for the racers. Those are all gone now too.

The 5hp flathead is by far my favorite engine ever, and my first, on my go kart when I was a kid. :)

I have some parts laying around that can tune it up to 15hp pretty quick (after some machine work of course). An air compressor with a .080 bore, .100 stroker and a Tillotson carb would be pretty sweet.
