10K is what Toyota says to do. BITOG posters, recommend more often.
Toyota does some testing, but for sure they didn't run a statistically significant number of engines for the equivalent of at least 10,000 miles to determine that no significant damage will occur (or more precisely that the probability of engine failure is below what they consider to be a remote probability) . So Toyota's recommendation more than just a wild guess.
BITOG posters are all guessing and a matter of opinion as what makes sense.
