I Bom(ed) my vehicles

My order of Bom came in, I pre-washed all my vehicles (I did not have the guts to use this BOM over dirty raw vehicles even though they say one can). I pre-wet the application towel supplied with BOM, few squirts BOM per section, rub with wet towel, immediately rub down gentle with dry microfibre cloth also supplied.

My 05 X-trail is the Platium Silver, or Zinc colour, I have used several waxes, Eagle One Nano, Eagle One Spry and Wax, Platnium Turtle Wax and others, nothing gives a deep mirror shine like this, I can see the trees mirrored in this light silver paint, never accomplished this with anything other wax including rain dance, new finish etc even on dark paints.

My X-trail went without wax all winter, the clear coat felt rough/resistance on edge of finger nail before BOM, after this BOM the clear coat is completely conditioned with what seems to be a very hard shell/protectant. I only did one application with BOM, with other wax products I always do two wax coats after a long winter of no protection on the car, did not need to do anymore than one application with Bom, the Bom instructions says further coats of BOM will enhance shine more, cant imagine it getting better or harder in shell than it is now.

You put this stuff on windows, plastic, worked great on dash as it cleaned it and conditioned it but now a glossy greasy film left like some products do, chrome done with this in unreal in shine. On mirrors and glass it comes out perfect with no streaking and it makes clean up easy with the protective coating it leaves, perfect on anything glass. I put it on my leather furniture, enriched colour, softened it, conditioned it, now I wish I had leather in my vehicles with a product like this.

Cant say how long it will last as far as protective shell goes, just applied it, verdict not out on that. I ordered quickly this time, everytime it comes on Canadian Shopping Channel it sells out immediately, lot of people must believe in it. I get it thru Professor Amos on Can Shop Channel, on the web it comes in many forms, Captain Richards I think is one, just type in BOM on search engine and the board lights up on it.

It may work great, but I've never tried it. I would if it was free, but I wouldn't buy it since I don't like their marketing tactics. For one, they claim(ed) that wax is abrasive and will scratch your paint. They also say that wax is useless since we have clearcoats; that is why clearcoats were invented. I don't like when a company tries to point out the shortcomings of what I currently use to "scare" me into using their product. Besides, the claim that wax is abrasive in general is absurd, IMO.

Anybody who claims you don't have to wax a clear coat finish has no clue what they're talking about. Clear is basically paint with no pigment added to it and is as susceptible to UV and other damage as any other paint. The biggest differences are that modern clear coat paints tend to be much harder than old school single stage paints, and clear won't fade like single stage will. But if you've ever seen a modern clear coated car with that chalky look in places, it's called clear coat failure and it happens because people buy into the whole "you don't need to wax this car, it has clear coat" nonsense and neglect their paint.

I wouldn't touch this stuff with a 10 foot pole, even if someone gave it to me for free.

Edit to add: Hold on now.... it protects paint but it also conditions leather? You've got to be kidding me. Those two substrates couldn't be more different. It may actually be a decent cleaner, but if it's that good at cleaning everything then there's a very good chance it'll strip any wax you may have had on the car. Wild "do everything" claims are generally not a sign of a great product.

It does leave a super hard shell, because it is not wax nececessarily doesn't mean it is not a protective coating. In 35 years I have not had a deeper luster or harder finish over a clear coat.

I got into a non-BOM affiliated Biker Forum and read on this BOM, many use this product on their Harleys etc and seem happy with the results. Lota great new chemicals out there these days, even in my construction trade, chemicals that take so little and do 100 fold of what other chemicals once did. I have chemicals in Plasticizing where a 2 oz cup replaces 20 lbs lime for one example. I kept an open mind on this BOM, I am giving BOM a chance, watching to see how long it lasts now, testing it myself now.

It claims 30 cars per bottle, I figure 15-18 medium size cars per bottle, still at $30.00 total delivered, that is not bad price if the finish lasts.

Just observation so far on stuff, last week I BOMed my vehicles, after a whole winter of zero wax I washed it before BOMing it last week, no water beaded, the clear coat was starved for protection, yesterday I washed these Bom treated vehicles and the water beaded in huge half balls that took a lot more squeezing on the chamois to dry than my wax previouus wax products, I am impressed so far with it, time will tell over summer when extreme heat hits it.

I am ginea pigging this product with open mind, will post what I find this fall after toture testing my clear coats in our extreme +38C summers here. Also, I will apply two coats this fall, leave it for the winter as I did last year and see if it beads in spring or not.

I would like to offer a few comments. Amsoil markets their products in a way that irritates some, but in the end they do make an excellent product. I use Dr. Bronner's magic soap in my shower, but it claims that it can also be used as mouthwash among other things! Some wax does contain very mild abrasives which are used to correct minor surface problems. Average folks may not know whether the wax that they are purchasing contains abrasives, so I can't fault "The Bom" for pointing this out.

With the above being said, some of the claims do seem to be outlandish. Cyprs is graciously sharing his experiences with this product. I thank him for that and am looking forward to seeing how "The Bom" performs. For those of us in the USA, I found "The Bom" on the HSN for $19.90, plus shipping of course. While "The Bom" may not be the end all of car care, it may be a good solution for folks that simply want a glossy shine with very little effort. My wife fits into this category and, with good performance, so may I....

How do you know it leaves a hard shell behind? Do you have a method for testing this?

Keep in mind that beading is not a guarantee of protection - it can be nothing more than a change in surface tension. I can machine polish a vehicle using a product that offers no protection whatsoever, nor does it claim to offer any. Washing the car immediately after will present the most beautiful little beads of water you'll ever see. But there is no protection on the surface.

When my car goes a long time without a wax, after washing and chamois down the car, when I run the end of my finger nail gently along the clear coat, I can feel a slight drag, friction, resisistance. I refer this to a TLC starved paint/clearcoat and it gets full TLC to bring back a shell surface in wax or whatever I try and works best.

Then when I put a a Turtle Wax Platnium or the like, buff it, run my finger nail gently, on can then feel the smooth glide on finger nail, please try this before and after any wax or protective finish, I am certain you will find this, when I do two coats of Platnium Turtle wax then the finger nail runs over gliding like ice, I have big ugly construction hands and I can feel this, I am thus sure any anyone else can too. Each time I use any product no matter what it is I do this very simple test to see if all my work on polishing is paying off.

It is a great world of chemicals in what is done in everything now, I now use a paint that goes on bare wood with an Alkyd primer built into it, once it drys this paint is then a durable latex acrylic and brushes rollers clean up with warm soap and water. This stuff is guarenteed 15 years, it cost 60.00 a gallon and worth ever penny because it does not require alkyd primer or top coat, all in one and it glides on twice as far. I can lay all night trying to figure out how they made an alkyd transform to a latex acrylic all in one application, paint store staff are baffled by it but claim all feed back is positive and it beats any other paint or process in field testing. It is superior to anything else I have used in construction and less expensive considering its unique qualities, if something works but doesnot make sense, I dont walk away from it and struggle with other products, I do keep an open mind, if it does not work then I walk away from it.

I am giving this Bom product a chance. To note, every year I do a double Platnium Turtle was application first thing in spring on the 05, no one at my wife's work paid attention last couple years. This year I did one coat of this Bom, everyone at her work thought we repainted because the paint darkened with a great mirror lustre in the sun, almost when slightly graphit in colour from bright silver, I dont know how this product softens leather like butter, richens leather colour and makes it look like it come right out of furniture store brand new or how it makes a hard wax like shell on paint too. I dont lay awake all night contemplating it like the paint product above, both new products work, works fast and easy, I did two work trucks today in 40 minutes after just spraying them down and letting them dry, the Bom completely cleans up the water spots and leaves a brillian shine, no more chamois prior to BOM, and it looks like I worked 5 hours hand polishing with dual to triple wax coats, I dont know how they do it or care, just care that it appears to be working.

I just pass on my experience and my long term verdict is not out on it either. There has to be people using this stuff, over 5000 units sell right out real early every time it comes on Shopping Chanel and people keep buying more every few months it comes on as it continuously sells out every time, I waited 4 months to get it on back order, worth the wait but I just order more other day in first hour it come on because next time I may not get so lucky.

I will not put this product directly on dust as they say one can, but I do not fuss as much on the washing before Bom though, that is nice feature. I do say this, in learning this product, I find doing two sections and then lightly microfibre polish buff works better due to cool spring weather, on wants a very light barely noticiable haze, this haze is like a wax haze but extreme minute, after light effortless buff it leaves a shell, as one lightly buffs one can sell slight dandruff flakes fall straight down off cloth, it does have a wax like charactoristic but extreme low elbow grease and no streak, smudge etc. It actually gives the clear coat that orange peel minute pebble like appearance when one stands at about 75 degree angle looking down side of vehicles that I get with two coats of Platium turtle wax. Glass is same, streakless perfection and it leaves the same protective finish on glass make bug/tar clean up easy.

I will use it for the summer and post this fall and next spring, I am trusting it on my "babies" vehicles, so far so good, see what happens long term. I would advice anyone to try it on an old faded car with nothing to lose but $30.00 or talk to a bike enthusiast with a Harley D etc, I know this has been used a lot on bikes, now it is just getting popular on cars. I now know why bike owners love this product on chrome after using it on my platnium silver paint colour and chrome. for all it is worth.

I dont claim this is better than anything else, I just dont have time anymore to stand out and wax on, wax off for hours and hours, I can detail my cars now in same effort as used to in wash and chamois prior to the task of wax on wax off and I cant feel or see any difference when done with BOM except deeper shine. I figure it as working smarter, not harder as Amos says, and so far I find him right in his claims, time will tell long haul, I am willing to test it and see and hope it is after testing what I think it is now.

I mentioned this product because others may want to try it out on an older vehicle, see if it works for them, I tried it on my old work truck and son's 94 Olds, saw results and went right to my 05 Nissan without hesitation. thanks

I tried contacting them via the website with a question about 2 weeks ago, they never replied. I was a little disappointed, had they replied I would have given the product a try.

Hopefully there will be some LT results posted here and I will make a decision based on that.
