I am really impressed with Gumout Regaine

Now that I have tried Pennzoil Gumout Regaine (fuel system cleaner) a few times I am really impressed with this product. Unless I someday have a very plugged up fuel system this Gumout product is going to be my fuel system cleaner of choice.

Everytime I use Gumout my car seems to run much better. I don't trust the detergents in gasoline very much and I think a fuel system cleaner is necessary a few times a year. Driving on the highway at a steady 75 miles an hour it seems to take about 200 less RPM with Gumout in the fuel tank compared to what it takes after I have driven the car for a long time with no fuel system cleaner. And the car just seems to run better.

The Gumout product is one of the few products on an increasingly short list that I believe in. Auto-RX is on that list also.

That makes no sense at all unless you have an old vehicle without a lockup torque convertor....even then it doesn't seem right

My mom's unbelievable awful Plymouth Voyager doesn't have a lock-up torque converter. It won't lock up at any speed! It sucks, because whenever you take your foot off the gas, the engine drops to idle, and you have no engine braking at all!

So while I understand how the same speed can be run at different rpm, I don't understand how a fuel cleaner can change something in the torque converter to make that happen...

How does that compare to Fuel Power, or other fuel system cleaners?

I don't have a torque converter-I have a five=speed manual transmission.

I am in the habit of checking the RPM gauge in addition to the other gauges. With this car at 75 miles per hour the RPM is about 3000. But I have now observed twice that after I put in the fuel system cleaner the gauge at 75 seems to read about 2800 RPM. The conditions (wind, etc.,) seemed about the same. Not a scientific test under controlled conditions, obviously. Just an observation. I was kind of surprised myself.

I'm noticing the same thing...weird I thought. I've been running 131C (Schaeffer's Soy Ultra--1oz per 10 gal) for the past (ugh) 2-3K mi (since November) and just yesterday it seems to be at lower RPMs than usual (5 speed stick)...maybe everything has finally gotten pretty clean through the intake manifold (running TBI). I'm down about 150-200 rpms at 65!

Engine rpm is directly proportional to the selected gear and vehice speed (and vice versa)

Maybe regane has dilluted your oil and is not making your clutch slip anymore from your rear seal leak?

I should point out I have not been using the Gumout product enough-it has been several months. I think I need to probably use the product every 3000 miles or so. So maybe there were deposits that were removed greatly improving performance. I don't know. And of course, this was hardly a scientific test. There may have been more wind when I was driving without the Gumout. Whatever.

But I did notice that approximately 200 RPM difference, Plus, with the Gumout, the acceleration seemed faster and smoother, the idle seemed better, etc. I am going to start using the Gumout product every 3000 miles. I think it is probably good enough unless the fuel system is really dirty.

I have now reached the point where just a few products interest me. When it comes to motor oil, I like Mobil 1, Chevron, Pennzoil, Castrol, Schaeffer's, and a few others. I like and believe in Auto-RX. And I am certainly going to add this Gumout product to the list.

I've seen several Gumout products, but no rRegane;

How does the bottle look?

Wal-Mart/PepPunks should have it...clear bottle with a kerosene color.

You know, although it's a month away, I could have gotten the 1st batch of "regular" gasoline. We "officially" switch from Oxygenated to "Regular" March 31. Maybe someone is starting earlier!

uconn - Curious where you are in Texas where they switch from oxygenated to regular gas in the summer... here in D-FW we are stuck with MTBE all year long.

If only Gumout Regane was sold down under. The closest we have is Redline SI-1 but I think its far less potent in terms of polyetheranimes go...

I'm sorry but there is no way Regane could lower your RPM's. The connection of the engine, transmission and final drive is not changing.

You are probably right, Brett Miller. I observed this twice but maybe wind conditions were different, who knows.

I do know that my engine seemed to run much better after the Gumout, however.

According to information that I received the Gumout in the clear bottle is the best. I get it at Wal-Mart-that is the only place locally that I know I can find it. How the clear bottle differs from the other Gumout fuel system cleaners is something I do not know.

I used to use Chevron Techron because it was one of the first, if not the first, products to meet the BMW cleanliness requirements. Plus, Chevron gasoline, that has Chevron Techron already in it, is the best gasoline there is as far as I have been able to determine. My cars have always run great with Chevron. But in all honesty the Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner did not seem to change performance very much.

I can't get Chevron gasoline where I live. When I drive in New Mexico or Arizona Chevron is always my first choice in gasolines. I may sometimes put some Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner in my tank between the times I add Gummout, providing I can find Chevron Techron on sale.

Most Chryslers do this. If I want engine breaking, i have to disable the overdrive function.
