I am getting blinded

"Best bulbs" at the expense of everyone else, rshunter. YOU think just because its "legal" its OK,---WRONG. Blasting megawatt sound systems may be "legal" too, but still bothers the [censored] out of others who are exposed to it. Don't try to self-justify your offensive choice of blinding aftermarket lighting. Its not my windshield (or anything else of mine) thats a problem. YOU are part of the growing problem.

The "best bulbs you can get", when installed in the correct housing and properly aimed, do not pose a danger to other drivers.

A poor housing and bad aiming can turn even the worst bulbs into a hazard.

I have a friend whose headlights hurt your eyes like highbeams if you kneel in front of his car, but I've driven in front of him numerous times and never been slightly bothered. His housings, and the care with which he set them up, produce a very sharp cutoff that prevents his lights from blinding people. On the flip side, I've seen cars with poorly aimed lowbeams that, even when they were clearly cheap and dimming from age, were terrible to drive in front of.

That was really just a long way to say the bulbs themselves don't always make headlights dangerous (unless they're CLEARLY the wrong color -- but in that case, they're not the best you can buy since they hardly illuminate anything).

I'd point out something, but as you clearly didn't get the original post, it would be useless.

You wanted tips on how to deal with the issue. I'm one of the few who gave you some. Now if you'd prefer to "pith and moan", rather than try them, so be it.

As far as being blinded through the mirrors from the headlights of vehicles from behind, you could get one of thsoe electronic auto-dimming rear view mirrors. they work pretty good. Also just your side mirrors out can help keep the glare from hitting you.

Nice.

I get ripped for being some kind of miscreant after trying to actually help the guy, yet I'm the one who gets fingered for a "personal attack".

Delete or ban as it may be felt necessary...

Not with the bullies in the F 250's 5 feet back from your bumper with their eye level headlight.

You did your best; some people aren't happy unless they are miserable. Bitterness and envy are powerful emotions.

Highly impractical...and some of the sad jacked up trucks out there can still shine into a normal full sized trucks back window.....

I just use the dimable mirror at intersections as a standard practice now. Not much else you can do...

Yes, be as wasteful as everyone else. I have no use whatsoever for a truck that gets 10 mile to the gallon.

I've tried the "HD Night Vision glasses" from the As seen of TV type products. Sure I look stupid, but only slightly more than I normally do

Ok how about some dark window tint? I don't know what the laws are like there but some States allow some tint on the front window.

Dark window tint blocks light going outwards just as well as it blocks vision inwards, ie reduces visibility when reversing/driving at night.

I installed 4300k (near stock Lighting color) 55w HIDs in my 95 BMW. It has projector headlights with a very sharp cutoff. Therefore there is less glare to oncoming drivers. I would not have installed them if they were not projector lights.

Even so I had to reset them lower to avoid glare. My lighting and, in my opinion my safety, is so much improved.

I may lower a bit more. I had two large trucks flash me on a rainy foggy morning before the sun was up. Only happened that one day.

It won't help to lower them more. Rain can turn the ground into a mirror. There is a reason why there is a legal limit (~3200 lumens) to light output even for high beams. You are throwing a lot more lumens down there than is normal.

I might add that just because the enclosure is projector style doesn't mean it can handle any intensity. There is a design limit that can be passed and then glare is possible even in the best housings.

Thanks,Great comments.
I still may lower them a bit. Per my guidelines from BMW and my Bentley repair manual, I think they are still a bit high.

Many of us do however.

Good.

I think the point is that folks like you should be the only ones on the road with such vehicles.
