I spent 23 years working at an equipment rental company and I can tell you as a fact the only really bad thing that you can do to an engine is run it with out a proper airfilter. We experimented with various oils in auto transmissions, in engines,and hydraulic systems etc. and the big thing that killed engines was no air cleaning. Dirt is the enemy! I keep my service van running till the boss made me turn it in for another one by thickening the oil with 90 wt gear oil to quiet down the knocking. I charged off the 90 wt to the rental dept because STP would't pass the rental dept managers ok.
