Hello everyone,
I have a 25kw diesel generator in Haiti and I have been using shell rotella t4 15w-40 for the last 6 months. The supplier no longer carries shell oil but it started selling the 5 gallon metal cans of Hyundai xteer 15w-40 oil.
Would the Hyundai oil be comparable?

They are both heavy duty oils of the same grade. That jug of Rotella looks like the more modern CK-4 version while that Hyundai barrel is an older CI-4/SL formulation. What is your generator manufacturer's recommendation?

This. That Hyundai is not a modern HDEO oil spec.

The Hyundai 15W40 is not comparable to Shell Rotellat 15W40.

The comparable oil would be the 15W40 in brands such as Chevron, Mobil or Castrol.

Also you need to verify the % of sulfur in the Diesel in order to make sure you are using a Diesel oil with the right mix of additives (High TBN).

The generator is a denyo 25 DCA25 SPX-DA which uses a Kubota B3300 EB engine.

For oil manual says -use oil ,CD class or higher ,classified by API service

Oil viscosity is SAE 10W-30, all season type .
Use oil according to ambient temperature .
Which for my location in the Caribbean is SAE 15W-40

Then either should work fine and since you're raising the viscosity get the cheaper oil.

Another question is - could I pour the Hyundai oil into empty rotella plastic gallons?
The hyundai metal can has a small leak but wasn’t sure about it.
