Not true.

For example, for the 2005 Hyundai Elantra oil filter they list the XG9688, TG9688, and PH9688.

What did happen was the previous XG3593A, TG3593A, and PH3593A were delisted for Hyundai and these new modified parts substituted.

There were apparently startup noise problems with the older number.

Interesting observation; I was at Blain's Farm & Fleet yesterday and looked up the Purolator equivalent for my Sonata. They listed the L14459 but the PL14459 was "not recommended" for the GLS. Purolator's website lists both.

As I'm new to the Hyundai world, what do OEM filters run at the dealers? I hear that they're "reasonable" and good for what you get in the filter, but don't have a dollar figure. I suppose I could call the dealer, but, well, I'm lazy.

You mean Hyundai oil filters are shrinkwrapped in plastic in the box before installation on the engine?

Do you mean the box or the baseplate? This $1.49 "pronto" has plastic on the baseplate, is made in china, and is suprisingly heavy.

I have to +1 on the quality of hyundai brand filters. The one I saw unabashedly also had the kia logo on it.

I mean around the base plate. And a $1.49 oil filter? I'M SHOCKED!!

I think those Pronto filters are surprisingly nice. Even inside. See the guts of a Korean production one I cut open here.

AGAIN here we go right to where a filter is made and then comes the bashing.
