First oil change coming soon. I have new gold PureOnes and Factory Hyundai filters on hand. Plan to change the oil at 2k and run 'til 5K then go with a 5k pattern. Would you use the Pureone or the Hyundai filter for this 3K run? The Hyundai filter looks so good that I am tempted to save them for 5K use.

I'd use either for a 5k run!

You changing the oil @ 2k will get most of the break in metals out and either filter will be fine with any oil for a 5k OCI.

Enjoy the new car!

Only you can answer this question. Its pure subjective choice on your part at this stage. Have you read anything objectionable about either filter in your application?

Hyundai has a TSB about not using nonOEM filters, so you may want to stick with genuine Hyundai (and keep the boxes for proof).

Any specific brands mentioned on the TSB? Like Bill wrote above, if they require only their oem brand they have to supply free of charge. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (P.L. 93-637)

Hyundai has released a TSB (#05-20-002) "Use of aftermarket engine oil filters causing engine knocking noise.” The TSB notes that, “Some vehicles may experience an engine knock noise with the use of aftermarket oil filters. Aftermarket oil filters may use different materials, construction and specifications than genuine Hyundai oil filters, which may lead to pressure variations within the engine, thus contributing to an engine knocking noise.”

Save yourself the hassle, use genuine parts! Don't forget your drain plug gaskets.

Please include your VIN number to ensure you recieve the correct filter.

I've ran a couple Napa Gold's 1334 and 2 Purolator PP 14559 and am about to use my first Made in China Pro Select 1334. No issue yet in long OCI's.

This is in my '08 Sonata 4 cyl. Never used the OEM filter.

I've used a Carquest Blue (Wix/Napa Gold equivilant) for 7500 OCI and just put a gold P1 on my 2008 Sonata 4 cyl. no issues.

For the low price, I heard nothing but good things about Hyundai Filters. I think they are part German/Korean engineering and the inside materials were high-quality.

That would seem to explain what I saw in "the book" at Autozone when I was searching for a Fram TG for my wife's 1999 Elantra since I already have too many filters for our trucks as part of the oil change specials. Seems they are delisting Fram for most applications. I had to cross reference other filters and then find the matching Fram.

Next time I will have to consult Bill in Utah's link before making the trip.

The Hyundai filters are top notch. I use them in my Elantra. They have solid construction and lots of media. They would be good to 7500 miles at least.

Hyundai filters are the only filters that I have ever seen that are sealed. Even the expensive K and N and Mobil 1 filters are not sealed.

Do you mean the box or the baseplate? This $1.49 "pronto" has plastic on the baseplate, is made in china, and is suprisingly heavy.

I have to +1 on the quality of hyundai brand filters. The one I saw unabashedly also had the kia logo on it.

I had a 2002 Elantra that I traded for a 2009 Sonata and only use the Factory Hyundai filters. They appear to be very good quality and don't cost more than other off the shelf filters. I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't stay with the factory filters especially if you want documentation for warrantee issues that could come up in the future.
