Vehicle is a 2001 Ford Explorer Spt Trac:
- Fan is occasionally intermitent in operation in temperatures around 40F and below. Fan will not work in any speed but usually will come on after about 20-30 minutes or if I put it in my garage overnight. Fan makes no unusual noise like a bushing is going. 2nd spd on the fan quit about 2 years ago but 1st,3rd & 4th work fine. All other HVAC controls work even when the fan does not. My thoughts are the resistor block under the hood on the fan housing. Any suggestions are appreciated and if the resistor block is the case can I get this out just pulling the cruise control and reserviors and not the air box?

It's not too hard of a fix if the truck isn't rusty. I had to replace the resistor on my Explorer. I think I left the air box in and only had to take out the cruise control and reservoirs to get to the fan. The main problem I encountered was that the bolts for the reservoirs were solid rust, everything else was easy.

Many thanks for the information and the video. Pretty certain the bolts for the cruise control and reserviors are not rusted (having a lot of issues eleswhere though). Main concern is removing the connector block from the resistor block. Many times the male and female terminals are fused together after 10+ years.
